waiting for sonogram results

SheltieLover, I have a question for you. Is your vet going to run a full renial panel? Zoe's started out with a bladder infection too. When I took a sample back in at the end of her meds they thought it looked too diluted. That's when they decided to do a full renial panel. Not to worry you, I was just wondering. How old is CeCe?

Glad to hear that it may only be a urinary infection. Did he give you antibiotics for her ? But please remember if you don't feel comfortable with your vets answers then always seek a second oppinion if possible. I know how difficult these times can be. Prayers and hugs go out for Cece, and you of course.:wink2:

I agree with Elaine, get the urinary tract infection taken care of and then go seek a second opinion. You really should have a vet that you're comfortable with, it only adds to your stress that you don't like/trust this one. Take care, hugs to you and Cece, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

He didn't say full renial panel, but I'm thinking that is the test we will take when Cece gets done with her antibiotics. CeCe is only 7 mos old and she has never gave us any indication that she was not feeling good. She is a barking, tromping, up for anything little puppy. How can you tell if your dog has a bladder infection? She doesn't drink an excessive amount of water, doesn't eat too much. She just always wants to play, like a puppy should.

I've never experience a dog with a UTI but I had the problem with one of my cats. With him I didn't know anything was wrong until it was really bad and I think thay may some times be the case with dogs too. There can be no signs anything is wrong until the infection gets severe, then they can be listless and lethargic, there may be blood in the urine, there can be vomiting and the dog may not want to be touched because he/she is in pain. We new something was very wrong with my cat, he was usually very gentle but he would all of a sudden turn really nasty and attack anyone who went near him. We later realized that he was in pain and confused, he thought that we were some how causing his pain.

Two of my females have had bladder infections. In both cases, they had to go out *constantly* and were whining every five minutes, then going out to pee next to nothing. We never got to the more serious symptoms fortunately, and you will find almost as soon as Cece is on the antibiotic she'll improve.

I was told to give Vitamin C to females to combat bladder issues. I got the Ester C I think from Drs. Foster Smith catalog and have used it ever since.

Geez what a help I am! I forgot to mention the most important symptom! In my defense it can be very hard catching a cat peeing, however I myself have had UTI's and still should have remembered! Sorry!

Well with Zoe she was having accidents in her crate and that's what prompted us to go the first time. The second time she had a UTI she got very sick, the runs, not eating but would still play like CeCe does so I thought she had a bug. I took her to the vet again and low and behold the UTI. She has regular accidents in her crate and I don't get after her b/c she can't help it. That's why she is crated at night and when we are gone. Don't want to step in that. It's a lot easier to wash blankets than to clean the carpet!

Ann that is good info on the vitamin c. I think I will try that with Zoe so we don't have anymore UTI's!

Well I will certainly keep my fingers crossed that it is only a UTI and nothing more. Keep us posted!

Good News!

Good news today from the vet! The bladder infection is all cleared up and while CeCe does have smaller kidneys, they aren't that small and they are working just fine. She is processing the proteins and concentrating her urine like she should. What a relief. The vet even said that we could put her on a high quality protein puppy diet again. Yeah for CeCe!:smile2:
