Was just told I have to let my 14.5 yr old baby go

My vet, who is also a close friend, says...it is the last great gift we can give them to let them go. Be there for your other baby....Hugs:hugs

I am sorry :(

My suggestions is, take a towel or washcloth and wipe over your dog after he has passed. Then let the other dog smell the cloth. I think it helps since they can smell what happened, at least it seemed to help my dogs.

Thank you all for your very kind replies.
He is ok today. They drained the fluid from his belly and chest area. He is breathing much easier and I am going to take it one day at a time.
He is on several meds so I am hoping to have him a few more days.

My husband went to Europe for a month this past Tuesday (work) and this is so hard without him.

I am just going to keep my eye on him and, as long as his breathing is slow and he is comfy, I will hold off on letting him go.

It is so hard, I want to make sure I am not fooling myself because he seems ok now. :(

You will know when he is ready. They find a way to tell us or they simply just leave on their own. You will know, and though it is hardest part to pet ownership, all the years of love and friendship from them are worth having to go through this part.

Strength to you.

It really is the hardest part. My little Clive has been such an angel. Even the vet said he is the sweetest boy he has ever dealt with.

I am so glad he is able to rest now. He was not able to breathe well and did not sleep for over 24 hours, he refused to even at the vet, regardless of them putting him on oxygen.

But now, he is sleeping. And I am so glad. I just have to count his breaths at rest frequently to make sure they are not going over 30 per minute.

Hugs to you! I'm so sorry. There is never a good time to make the call. Just know that your pup had a good life, and now it's time to rest. Sweet dreams, darling!

So sorry for what you are going through. Treasure the memories you have from your time together. I lost my Trace at only 4 1/2, which tore me apart, but he crossed that bridge peacefully in my arms - I take comfort in that. You're in my prayers during this difficult time.

May your sweet Clive have more comfort time with you. Every day he can breathe well is a blessing. Clive will let you know when the time comes to say good-bye.

many hugs...Trini

Sometimes the vet puts into words what we really have known all along. May Clive's days be filled with peace and comfort. When the time comes, you'll know -- and the knowing will be Clive's gift to you. Your gift is to heed the call.

I am so sorry for your loss. My Lucky is going through the same thing with fluid on his heart, but doing ok for now, he will be 13 at the end of this month. I know the time will come I have to say good-bye to my Lucky too. I don't want to really think about that, only to enjoy him each day.

Lots of attention for your one left behind. He will figure out he doesn't have to share treats, pats, hugs, play. Its hard on them at first figuring out where their buddy went, but he will realize Clive is not coming back eventually.

Its even harder on the humans. :hugs
