We might be....

I think I agree with myself and you ! Forcing the situation, a new puppy etc, isn't the best thing to do! Besides, I have a potential job coming up AND my dad and his wife will be here for Christmas .

House guests AND a puppy... that's a good way to drive yourself crazy!! :eek2: Just one of those things has the potential to drive a person crazy... both things at once... well let me just say... it would be tough for you to post on the sheltie board when you're wearing a straight jacket :wink2:

, exactly!! And trying to possiby have a job too, crazy huh! :dead:

Megan, Keep looking, I truly believe the right thing will happen. We've been looking with a wide spectrum of either a pup or an adult Sheltie, are open to either sex and colors. Like Zak did for Maggie at 13, Cozmo did for my Maggie when she was 8. There is truly magic that happens when two Shelties are togehter. Give it time, your magic will happen as well.

Two shelties is better than one!

I would never be a one sheltie household ever again. They really do well with a friend.

I am sorry that this is not working out for you. Hopefully another one will come along :-)

Here's proof just exactly what another dog can do for your Sheltie!

Dogs are pack animals and I also would never be a one sheltie household again! Between my two mixes and Hadley I should have at least two shelties... hahaha.

I think the situation mirrors what you are looking for, though. A (somewhat) trained dog with a nice, level head (and maybe some snuggliness that you want!) from a caring home (like a sweet breeder who is fretting over placing her over/under-sized show prospect). Maybe you can build a list of what you want. Companion, family oriented, Sheltie-friendly, male (?)... This would help breeders or rescues narrow their search down. Perhaps finding an advocate in the search would help as well.

It seems like you are nervous to add a dog to your house, but keep coming back to it as a "I really think it could work." Try a trial period to ease your mind.

Two shelties are better then one! I never really gave it much thought...we've always had one sheltie and another dog (of a different breed) but we recently got another sheltie, and even though she's 10 years old, it's like he and my 6 month old puppy speak some kind of secret "sheltie language". They play together, and run together, and get in trouble together. My puppy, Kennedy, would never do this with out beagle....

It's just so funny to see...

Susan, I am so sorry things didn't work out with the Sheltie and my heart broke when I read you were crying coming home from looking at the Goldens but you did the right thing in that situation. bad living conditions breed sick pups as you've read from Gypsy's experience's.
I know when the time is right the perfect Sheltie will join your home and bring out a playful pup in Megan like you haven't seen yet. Hugs.:wink2:

not to interfere with OP but to answer Miko's Mom question about Leo not having enough muzzle- US standard calls for deep jaw which many interpret as having lots of bone on the muzzle, as opposite to UK standard where dogs are more light specially in the facial bone.
this is picture from the blog Leo at 6 weeks he is 5-8 pic from the top

Thank you so much Dawn, those are very sweet words . It did, it broke my heart, we had a long list of boy names, crate ready for him and everything. Believe it or not, I also listened to Megan's body language with the GR pups. She gave me a HORRIFIED, betrayed, you don't love me anymore look . It broke my heart and at that point I was already feeling uneasy about the pups living condition that her look at me sealed the deal. I actually grabbed her and put her on my lap assuring her that she "would always be my baby girl", no matter what..

You're right, when the time is right I'll know it.. :wink2:

Thanks for that. I've noticed the difference in muzzles in a lot of the photos here... I wondered how/why some dogs had such "pixie" little faces and some dogs seemed to be "stronger" in the face. Now I know!! :smile2:

Sorry for going a bit off-topic here.
