Weaving - which method?

I'm apparently using the 'confuse the dog completely until he has no clue what to do' method :rolleyes2: We started off with the 2x2 method but I think I should have stayed longer on that stage. We've moved on to a weavamatic set at class but we don't seem to spend enough time on weaves for him to make any progress.

I finally made up a set of four in the backyard with tent poles stuck in the ground. But with fall comes a new problem - Clancy doesn't like working on wet grass, the little diva!

So now I've got the instructions to make a set with a base so that I can put them in the garage for practice. He's doing fantastic on every other obstacle so I'm pretty sure it's his handler that's holding him back on the weaves.

I have tried to guide the dog through the weavepoles, but I didn't think that was so effective as I wanted it to be. I train everything with "clicker-think", doesn't always use the clicker, but I still train with positive reinforcement.

With Pixie I have only tried 2x2-method :smile2:

Weaves

Chanku--I have a freind of mine that is from Sweden and she lives in the USA right now but she runs my dog for me sometimes.I know she visits her family often.

I tried the 2x2 method and it didnt work for mine, although they had already started learning to weave by the time I used this method.

I taught deska to weave between my legs and so he got the hang of weaves really quickly, although I find now with dancing classes he will only do his weave entry on one side of my legs, he learnt it so well.

With Tully I spent an hour just drillingweaves and thats how she got it. Lots of short sessions wasnt working. But she is one sheep dog that will do anything for a ball for hours on end.

Love me some 2x2s. Bella learned to weave mostly on weave-a-matics with some channels thrown in there. She was a good weaver, but never really got the hang of entries. After starting to compete I realized this weakness and went back and totally retrained her weaves using 2x2s with Susan Garrett's dvd.
