Wellness Super5Mix Or Innova?

I'm glad Sadie's doing well on it! I did 3 months of research before we got Pidge and decided on Wellness for her, she's on the puppy but as soon as she switches she will go to the Welness CORE (grainless). She has done marvelously on the food and it actually cured her loose stools that she had before. Check if Sadie's current food had corn in it, sometimes that is an allergen and can cause the digestive problems. Also, if you have to try something else I would definitely recommend Orijen, I think it is by far THE best non-raw dog food on the market and it is made in Canada, I tried to get it for Pidge but it's not sold around here :(

Sadie is on a hypoallergenic vet food which contains no corn. Her flare ups are unrelated to her current food, which cured her problem. I just wanted to get her onto a higher quality food not sold by the vet and Wellness seemed to be the closest match for her and seems to be the only other food that doesn't set her off.

Orijen is another food that I considered but the protein content is too high for Sadie, who has problems with mild, chronic pancreatitis. The same goes for Wellness Core. I've found that she doesn't have any of her severe vomiting and diarrhea attacks if I keep the crude fat and protein in her food to a level similar to the vet food.

That's terrific that she is doing so well. It could be that with her tendency towards constipation, the Wellness (which seems to make other dogs have loose stools) may be ideal!

I agree that Orijen, Horizon, EVO, etc. may not be good for her. I'm pretty sure that all three have salmon oil supplement in the food itself. Great for dogs who can tolerate it, but probably not a good fit for Sadie.

Good luck on the final transition!

That was one of the reasons I picked Wellness :smile2:

I did so much research into dog food ingredients that my head was spinning! I looked into all of those foods and didn't think it was worth the risk of making her sick.

I got so worried about her, her attacks just make her so miserable. She'd have no energy at all, want to be alone and her eyes were so dull and lifeless. Scary to see in any dog, let alone on that is only a year old (as she was at the time). I don't want to risk going back there again.

She seems to do well on this food with only carrots as treats and the odd cheat, which doesn't seem to bother her at all. As soon as extra fat is added to her diet on a regular basis, within 3 weeks her attacks return.

Sadie continues to do Well on Wellness

I've still not switched Sadie to Wellness entirely because I didn't feel ready when we needed to buy more vet food. I'm still giving her 3/4 Wellness to 1/4 vet food until we run out of vet food.

I've noticed a big difference in her coat since the switch. It no longer feels dry and straw like and her skin isn't dry anymore. Her coat is shiny and silky soft. She no longer strains when she has to poop.

No signs of any flare ups, her bowels and stomach have been just fine. She also seems to like it just as much as the vet food, which is a definite bonus. I'd never seen her like any food like the vet food so the fact that she loves the Wellness says a lot.

I'm looking forward to switching her over completely so that I don't have to mix her food anymore.

I've also switched Ginny onto Wellness Puppy. She also seems to love it and is doing very well on it.
