I'm also not sure about Westminster's use of the term Championship since it is misleading the general audience. Now if they had qualified entrants in some form of merit rather than a draw of uncertain selection criteria I might be more accepting of that title.

Can any local trial declare a "Championship" event?

I don't know much about the invitational. Isn't it like the top 5 dogs from the breed based off of q's and points that year?

I guess it just seemed weird to me that many articles are advertising it as the top 50 dogs from the qualifying round, but it is really 10 dogs per jump height, 3 are the top scores for that height regardless of breed, the other 7 are the next top scores, but all 7 have to be different breeds and one of those breeds is a mixed breed (if they qualify.) Unless I'm wrong, but that's how I read it. Just sucks for a dog that places 4th-7th and doesn't move on because the same breed was in the top 3. So to me it's really like you're in competition with your own breed. I just always felt agility was a sport that wasn't based on breed, which is why I liked it, but I'm new to agility so maybe I'm wrong.

You have a Sheltie, of course you're competing against your own breed. :P

I dont like the breed agility events. I know a woman that has a rare, just new to AKC breed, and went to the Invitational. I think she may have won. Granted, I think there was only two dogs....or maybe just one. Her dog isn't bad, but Koji blows her dog away. Whereas, Koji will never ever win a breed comp because of the sheer number of Shelties.

I just hit record. I'm watching the Olympics. I hope they do a good job of covering it. Hey, I went to see what is going on, there's a basketball game on. Boo. Oh, I read Greg Louganis is doing the announcing, good, he know what he's talking about.

I have seen photos, are the dogs really running on astroturf? I hope they put something soft on the ground. Looks like 13 teams from OR are competing and a name I see a lot up here is judging.

Anyone know how you qualify?

Just saw the first dog, that looks so nerve wracking. Haha.

I wasn't going to watch it live, was going to record it, but the woman I train with qualified, so now I'm watching it.

That jump after the a-frame looks tough. My dog would take an off course cause I wouldn't handle it well.
 
These announcers... "Onto the weaves... Wee Wee Wee!" :lol:

*edit* DH said the announcer who said that is a diver. Why is he commentating an agility competition?

It's Greg Louganis. He's been doing agility for years, but is well-known for his Olympic golds in diving.

I was surprised the guy with the Papillion didn't get a refusal since the dog was so close to the jump on the wrong side.

But yeah, that's hard, they're going straight for it coming off of the A-frame. Or at least that's what it looks like.

And don't worry, you'll get there. :) Give yourself time.
