What Breed Has Your Sheltie Been Confused With?

In these past weeks, I have had people knock on my door for all different things, and all of them, IS THAT A MINATURE COLLIE? I just have to giggle, because no they don't know what the sheltie breed is.

BTW if it a puppy looks like a sheltie or a collie and it is a bi blue or bi black , it is a sheltie. Collies don't have the bi colors. More color trivia for you, Sophie.

Interesting, however with the large numbers of BCs you get here a bi black would easily be a collie pup I'm enjoying all this colour stuff, do you get many red merle BCs over there? We have quite a few here and that can throw people!

I don't think I have ever seen a red merle BC.

I was surprised the number of colors they come in. At the training school(owner has BC) I go to there is, a blue merle, bi blue, Tri, red tri, red and white, blue and white, course many bi blacks and blue CHW, a couple they call Austrialian Red(very pale gold/straw color). I've seen a sable at a show and that was strange. No red merles though.

I took my Fergus to the pet shop to try some collars and martingales ( think is well written) and everyone that visited the shop asked me questions of him some of them said what's the breed? i answered a Sheltie, then i said a Shetland sheepdog, they looked at me like no clue scratching their heads then i had to explain what exactly Fergus is. where he comes from etc. they still no clue so i gave up and said he is like a mini collie then they said oh!!!!!! what beautiful!!!! and will he grow more???? Im sorry but i had to use the MINI COLLIE thing most of the time here while i had to roll my eyes, ppl here dont realize this breed, just a few ppl like trainers or vets. and i use it to can introduce ppl to the breed, and explain.

Here Fergus is so exotic that even once at vet all the vet students and 'nurses' where in the same room amazed to see a first sheltie baby they only had seen one that is a grow up and comes from time to time. Also when we go for a walk everyone said oh a mini collie so beautiful or stop me to ask where i bought him, if that is his temper he is very social, he greets everyone etc etc. he is like a star here , and i realize I'm use to it too!!!

Shelties are much more common here, and at Agility trials there are always TONS

My sables are constantly called Collies, the blues usually Border Collies, and there was one person who insisted my blue boy was a mini Aussie. The worst though was the fool who called my Ember a Corgi when she was a puppy ewww
Oh yes, and when I brought my bi-blue Border Collie puppy into Tractors supply, the guy at the counter told me not to be surprised when she darkens to being all black, because you know, they're born white and change over gradually to black as they age. The Border Collie pup has also been referred to as an Aussie, as she is a conformation/working line cross, and has the head of a conformation line BC, as opposed to the finer heads typically seen on many of the working line BCs.

I love red merle BC's Here is a breeder that has red merles. I love her dogs!

I'm completely confused. Do you really have a border collie puppy, or were you joking about people calling your sheltie a border collie? I got lost somewhere. It happens to me a lot though.

Sandstorm has been mistaken for a collie, (he is a big sheltie) I don't mind, but I do correct people. Don't worry, my german-belgian shepherd was once mistaken for a Corgi.

My shelties are typically called mini collies, I had a pharaoh hound that some random woman tried to fight with me that she was a red doberman. I mean sit and argue with me! I was transporting a rescue smooth collie (sable and white). A groomer came out and asked what breed she was mixed with because she was so pretty! She thought the poor girl (Hollie was her name) was a German Shepherd mix, and my husband's black and tan coonhound hasn't been mistaken by anything yet, but we do get a lot of questions of what breed she is. LOL
