what is your preferred venue?

Oh I understand that you get more runs and that's definitely a plus. I just like to be able to go home and spend time with my family afterwards so I'm really only looking at starting and ending times, not what fills the middle in.

Oh, sorry. In a previous post you said you were concerned only with the "beginning and end times of the show". So to me, that meant the entire show, including Open/Novice runs. I didn't know you were talking about only your runs.

just out of curiosity, what is your preferred venue for agility trials? why do you prefer this venue over others you have competed in?

i've just recently realized there are a lot of different venues available...

I was thinking about your original post. From the responses you got, it's obvious everyone enjoys a specific venue for different reasons. And there are venues we all personally dislike.

I feel that if you're a beginner and you have different venues around you, you should try out one of each. That way, you can get a feel for what you like/dislike (distance, hours, # of runs, etc) and what you want out of a venue (competitiveness, relaxed, etc).

Sorry I guess I kinda forget about the novice and open runs since I haven't been in it in so long. Whoops! :o

thanks for the thoughts. i would like to try several venues, but i was hesitant to go registering my dog with all of the venues! lol. will probably at least venture into akc (since we're registered anyway) and usdaa (since my trainer holds usdaa trials). i'm interested in cpe, since i'm new to agility (and so is my dog). i also prefer relaxed to competitive  haha

I felt the same way, especially because some require fees. However, the good thing is it's a one time fee and most of them aren't big. $20 at the most?

I started with NADAC. Once I got addicted, I went and signed up for everything else. I knew I'd want to try them out just to see what it was like. Heck, I had a USDAA number probably for a year before I actually trialed.

I would say....sign up for them as you go along. See what you want to try, and then get registered. No point in registering if you may never compete in a certain venue. Right? Right!

I am almost positive that CPE you have to pay a fee to every year.

Actually, there's two fees.

Membership, which is yearly.
Dog registration, which is one-time fee.

You don't have to be a member to enter in trials. Your dog just needs to be registered. I had thought the same thing, especially since I do CPE once a year with my club. But Silaria had explained that they were separate fees.
The initial membership fee for a new member covers the processing, materials and postage of the membership packet and includes a “free renewal” for the remaining months during the year when a member joins. New membership dues will expire at the end of the year joined, and will be eligible for renewal for the following year. Note: renewal is not required to show in CPE once you have a membership listed.
