I couldn't find the thread where there was a discussion on collars and one particular kind was talked about...does anyone remember? I think it would be good for Brock who tends to be a bit reactive.

There have been a lot of threads about collars. I think what they may have been talking about was a Martingale collar. It won't slip off of Kai's or Brock's heads if they reacts to something. I found a couple for the girls at Wags to Whiskers in Saline. I think they have a location in Dexter to,that one might be closer to you. And there are different styles of martingales, just google it and you will see. Most of them tend to be the wider version for gray hounds but you can find smaller ones for shelties too. Barb even has a great site that you can custom order them from. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Picture of the collars that were made for Bacca and Indy also attached. The picture makes them look wider than they are....they really are only about 1/4"
I love these collars. I went with the custom made, because as Shaun said, most martingales tend to be very wide. The ones I got, pretty much disappear into their ruff without matting. Fit is critical for any martingale, otherwise they will slip off, just like a regular collar. Some are adjustable - the company above does both adjustable and non-adjustable.

The other sort of collar discussed recently was the Gentle Leader - its good for dogs that tug or lunge or bark at dogs/cars etc. It is like a horse rein and gives you better control over the dogs head.

I have used a gentle leader and recently switched to a halti - have to say they are both very good. They are supposed to calm the dog by the way they sit over the back of the head and nose, and I have to say it works with Cadbury who can become very hyper and over-excitable very easily.
I have also used a half-check, which I think is similar to a martingale? but that didn't really solve the problem, which is why I switched to the head collar.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
How do you find the halti. I haven't tried it and was wondering how it compared to the gentle leader.
The only prob I have with the Leader is that it keeps slipping down the soft fur so it is hard to keep in the correct position behind the ears. And it knots Deska's ears quite badly - as does the slip collar I use for him (Tully has a martingale). ATM while he is in winter coat he wears a harness but of course it doesn't stop the silliness around cars.

I bought a halti a number of years ago at petsmart for Milo, my parent's sheltie.
Althoug the gentle leader and the haltie have the same idea, I believe that they fit slightly differently.
I have to say that Milo's didn't fit him that well and often interfered with one of his eyes when he did try and pull. As a result he never really became used to it and always tried to dig it off. We eventually stopped using it. But like I said, I bought it a long time ago, perhaps its been improved or it depends on the shape of the dog's head. Milo has a pretty typical head for a sheltie though.
