What to Shelties see when they see"

We use our vision mostly to understand our world but dogs have ears and a tremendous smellier to tell them about their world-- much better in finding hidden information than vision, But yesterday I came into the house from cleaning up doggy loggies and was in the mud room my female Sheltie came around the corner down the hall- about 25 feet away and charged me barking her ferocious- I will eat a lion bark. When she got within about 8 feet or so she stopped barking and wagged her tail and came to greet me, so I started thinking. When she saw me she saw a human but not me and it wasn't until she got withing ode da korper distance did she recognize who I was. I wonder if Sheties have any real sort of facial recognition in their brain or are we just humans till they smell us as a pack member?? We have horrible smellavision compared to theirs and maybe they have no real detail recognition vision like we do. I have often missed that smellavision when I find a pee puddle or something more solid and would like to know which little devil could not wait to go outside.. I am nose blind for sure and maybe they are facial recognition blind too.

Years ago my sister bought a Halloween wig and went into the bathroom to put it on. When she came out and my mom’s dog saw her I swear that dog wanted to kill her…the reaction was so sudden.
It was her voice saying Honey it’s me that made the dog realize it was ok.
Definitely not good eyesight like us and sometimes I think they don’t believe what they smell!

We had some new trees planted recently just outside the dog yard, so hubby is out there watering daily. He hung a broad brimmed hat on the outside of the fence. Early yesterday morning I took all the dogs out and everyone but Misty performed as usual. Misty stood absolutely still as a statue staring at this hat! You would have thought she was a pointer. And it wasn't more than 10 feet away from her so it was clear what it was. She did not move until I went over and took it off the fence, and then went nuts like it was going to eat her. She would not come near it until I held it down and the other dogs all gathered round like "WTH?? This isn't even interesting!" it was both hilarious and puzzling.

Blueberry has done that to boxes, clothes on a walker, a bag on the floor etc.
it really makes me wonder what the heck they see! Oddly enough Piper and Finnie almost never react to anything. Perhaps it’s just the females😂?

When he was young a tree fell in the neighbors yard Sca was on alert and checked it out then ignored it. Spitfire was sure it was a monster for days. Then was upset when it was gone. His hearing and eyesight are declining now so little phases him. Either thunder is sometimes ignored.
