When did your pups personailty stop changing?

I think Bentley was getting ready to settle into his personality...and then we rocked his world by adding Lexi. Then, he changed again. So we'll see if he keeps changing!

Lexi, who is not quite 1, is still changing.

Smudge has Deska beat. He's 17 months old, and he is crazy with no hope in sight. The static electricity he gives off by spinning at the door must knock the lights out three or four houses down. :eek2:

I won't complain about spinning on the grooming table, because that is kind of handy. Wish Fluff did that... :uhoh:
 
Vash has really only had one huge personality change so far. He's about 8 months now.

That change happened about a month and a half after I brought him home. Up until that point he was clingy and quiet, and calm. And afterwards he just allowed himself to be more comfortable.

That said there are minor personality changes that happen on what seems to be a bi-weekly basis. He's recently started barking when I ignore him (he's never really been much of a barker), and he is full of goofyness (today he removed a doorstop so he could chew on it then got freaked out by the door closing behind him. And finally was very upset he locked himself in the room with me when the door fully closed), and now that I opened up a door to a room with an old TV on the ground he seems to be having an absolute blast barking at his reflection for ages then running over to me and jumping in my lap.

But by and large his personality seems fairly set at the moment. I'm sure he'll suprise me in his 'teen years" though.
 
Zoey seems to have ups and downs with her personality.
Sometimes she will be very mellow and easy to "shape", and some other weeks she's challenging us all the time.

Right now, she's in the challenging state.

However, there are things that seem to remain a constant with her, such as barking :rolleyes2:
 
I look at dogs as works in progress - never totally finished. Meaning their personalities continue to grow over the years we have them. Different influences over time shapes how they react and become. Just like with humans - personalities seem constant but there are changes that we may not notice at the time but looking back we can see.
 
The change I see most often is after a bitch has her first litter. Until then, no matter what the age, they seem to be "puppies". Doing silly things, making everything a game. Play, play, play. After their first litter, they seem more serious. Still playful, but more mature acting. I aways have that sadness when puppyhood is over. Tofu Pup tells me I need to get Tansy under control. Nah....it will all come soon enough.
 
I got lace spayed at 6 months as the vet told me if you do it before the first heat, it has health benefits. It makes me sick even thinking about her leaving me so anything to make her stay with me longer is no object. Do you think this will have a positive effect on her personality, not having to go through that hormonal teenage phase? She seems really "mature" for her age. Had her at obidence today and she just watched the other dogs barking and going crazy, while she kept looking up at me:rolleyes2: Haha I really don't know what to expect as she gets older!

You will get different opinions on spaying and neutering. Some feel every body part and hormone is there for a reason, so dogs should stay intact. And some feel to reduce unwanted puppies and certain forms of cancer, spaying and neutering is a must.

As far as personality change... spaying should not effect your girl's personality. Bailey was spayed at 7 months old. She is now 15 months old and her personality is no different. She is on the immature side and has been this way since day 1.
 
I've noticed that the basic personality remains solid. Layla was bomb-proof at age 4 months. Bits discovered BALL, and that is still our autistic girl's world. Annie was five, so we missed some development, but her personality has not essentially shifted. Beckon is the same rolicking boy he has been since birth -- Colonel Underpants is all good fun, without an ounce of "baggage."

Now we do see some shifts. Layla went from Miss Independent to Mommie's Best Girl at about 15 months. Bits at age four shifted into a more affectionate mode with everyone, but especially her Mommie, my DS. Annie has recently taken on the responsibility of waking Daddy up at the same time (0700) every morning, just in case he's forgotten that Shelties need food. And Beckon goes through those mercurial puppy phases: "I can take on the world:mad:." I'm afraid of the dark:uhoh:." "Why, yes, I DID poop on the carpet. What of it :cool:?"

But under it all, their essential personalities remain solid!!:biggrin2:
