When Rescue Goes Wrong

I know the saying that "justice is blind" but I didn't know it was deaf & dumb too!! This is beyond crazy. Delaying the hearing until December without verifying that Piper is still ok & where they claim is very poor judgment on the court. Praying there will be a happy ending.

And I would get the state's attorney general involved in investigating this rescue. There are certain practices that a 501(c)3 non-profit has to follow. I am involved in helping with a case of a rescue that is getting donations & claiming to rescue dogs it hasn't. The state's attorney over charities is on the case here.

Thanks for this response.... VERY informative. I hope and pray they do get the attorney general involved in investigation. This delay is unconscionable!! :gaah

FYI - there are ongoing investigations now into the rescue by authorities.

Thank goodness!!!! What she did is not ethical, and this poor dog (and owner) has to suffer.

I still can't believe that this rescue offered $500-$1000 to "replace" Piper. As if any of our fur-babies could be replaced! I sincerely hope that Piper gets to come home, and soon.

For some reason I've been thinking about Piper all this week. Does anyone have anything new to report? I think the trial is coming up sometime this month - wouldn't it be great if Piper could be home for Christmas! :fl

There's another pre-trial set for Thursday at 9am, but I also see this- "ENTRY GRANTING MOTION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO MOVE/PLEAD ON/BEFORE 12-23-14 BY JUDGE O'GRADY." I'm not sure if that means the pre-trial will be postponed or what. I hate to be a pessimist, but I don't think Piper will be going home this week because it's a pre-trial. But I don't really understand how all that works so maybe by some miracle she will go home. We'll see!

This is the most recent info I could get... Dec 11 we should hear something...

Today in Franklin County Municipal Court, the Pre-Trial hearing in the case of Piper, the Ch Shetland Sheepdog (released to Central Ohio Sheltie Rescue/Penny Sanderbeck) again in the middle of a legal storm, has been continued until Dec. 11, 2014.

In a statement released by Veronica Covatch and Michele Wilson (the Plaintiffs):

We want to thank Mr Cohen for his efforts on behalf of Michelle and myself to reach a reasonable resolution in this matter. Unfortunately the offer of settlement was not accepted by the defendants by the pretrial conference date.

We are now in the process of retaining experienced trial counsel who will be able to move forward to the next stage of this case. We will not stop until we Bring Piper Home.

Unless something has changed recently, the next hearing is Thursday, Dec. 11.
