When threads become too long....

I agree wholeheartedly !!

I am going to agree with you whole hearted.Because of the fact,I am one of the people that does take pictures often, and I know there are folks that really could give a rip,and then there are those that do like to see updated pictures.

I see no point in starting a new thread on Jasper or Trapp for pictures, because of the fact,I often do resurface thier thread with new pictures.

Folks can simply skim over, and choose not to read or look,it's simple as that.

I don't care really. And I'm sure some folks DO get tired of seeing my pictures. There are many times,I don't even bother to let folks know here publically, because they are'nt going to look anyhow.

I do send Janet pictures to her private email, for her updates of her site. If folks want to see updated pictures of Trapp & Jasper,I often update thier albums, and if they wish to see them they can visit there.I do not post every single shot I take of the pups. But I do take alot of pictures.

Do I look at pictures of everyones pups..you bet I do.Do I visit albums & profiles..yep I sure do. I may not comment on everyone's profile pictures, but I sit many nights just brousing thru.
Not one post with pictures goes unoticed,I read & look at all of them, and never tire of everyone's puppies.

This particular thing, has crossed my mind many times, but I have simply not bothered to bring it up,but I'm with you Ashley.

This forum is extremely busy with new folks, and yes we do see questions being asked by new folks, that could be started with a new thread. But alot of folks, don't really know how to use the forum format.

One could sit forever looking for a thread that has the subject line of a particular issue, but jeepers, you could sit and look forever. It's just as easy to start a new thread, especially for a new member.(this pertains to questions..not new pictures)

As some are actually coming here for the first time, many have ongoing issues,so they post thier questions within in thier Intro hello post.

To each thier own I guess,but that's my opinion~
Michele, I agree with you and Ashley 100 %
I don't understand what's happeneing to this forum. Nobody ever did this much complaining about others posts. My goodness just go past them if they are of no interest !! Come on now lets just be social about this and go on !

I've been online since the early 1990's when there was only USENET Newsgroup threads to read on Bulletin Boards, nothing anywhere near as sophisticated as forums have become. The Web as we know it today didn't even exist.

I learned early on that I don't have to read or reply to everything. I love when people use titles that summarize their thread because this helps me figure out if I can by-pass it or not. If I can't determine that from the title, I'll read the first page of posts to see if it is a topic of interest.

Like all of you, there are some topics I'm just not interested it. That doesn't make me a bad forum member or make me care for the folks on this forum and their pups any less.

The forum has grown, and that's a good thing. Large families can't always know 100% of what's going on but somehow we know when the IMPORTANT things happen, even if its a few days/weeks later.

Don't feel guilty if you don't read everything. It's not a crime and folks will love you and your pup anyway.

The mods & I are talking about a potential redesign & expansion of the categories.

That way new users can more easily drill down into areas to find answers and the more experienced users don't have to weed through as many posts.

We are working on it. :wink2:
Y'all do a good job. Not to say that you can't improve (we always can) but just thought it needed to be said that the current is nice also.

Hi, I'm going to resumbit something I suggested a while back. Make the archives or reference section a bit fuller, or have an archive within category-or a sticky. That way some of the good threads on food, toys, behavior (barking, chasing ,etc) would be easily available to the new folks.

I really appreciate all the info I've gotten from this forum.

Excellant idea Simcha.

What a forum this has become! I am proud to be a part of it.

I agree -- this forum is remarkable. There's so much love and support, and almost no sniping. We take excellent care of each others feelings and respect diverse opinions. I'm so proud to be a part of the Sheltie Nation family! :biggrin2:

Many thanks to our amazing moderators!! :wink2:

Thanks guys, for not beating on me for putting this out there!

You all came back with some really valid points on the many sides of the discussion.

Please don't get me wrong....I'm not saying to not post pictures ever! We (I) love pictures! But if you are maintaining a chronology of photos, then wouldn't they would be better off in an albulm on the website, instead of buried in a thread! I love to look through albulms. And I love to see the posted comments to the pictures in the albulms.

What I find difficult is wanting to see the pictures, but going through threads that are meandering all over the place. So I tend to avoid those threads if they've gone on too long, or if I've fallen behind on it.

And again, I have no issue with topics coming up that have come up before. With so many new members, by reintroducing the topic, it injects new perspectives or answers to problems that we may have missed previously.

Kelly, can't wait to see what you've come up with to help navigation, etc.

Respectfully,
Barb

Thank you Kelly and your moderators! I appreciate your board, and how you take ownership of the site. Just think how many personalities are on this board, and you have made them all gel together because of our shelties.

I know you will make the best call on this discussion, and you know the tech abilities of your site better then anyone. You have added catagories, you have enhanced your site to attempt to please everyone, and that is an impossible task. Shoot ya can't do it with shelties, they each have their own ideas.

THANKS KELLY AND TO YOUR MODERATORS!!!

Its a joy to be part of your board, with a great group of posters, and you babysit all of us. :wink2:

Barb...maybe you can help me with something, then.

How do you know when the albums are updated? Maybe I am missing something. Is there a way to see who has updated their pictures in their albums? If there is...then I totally see what you are saying. Just check out the new pictures in a persons album. If there isn't a way to know when someone has updated their albums, then I will stick to putting a picture in a thread.

For example...I am not going to start a new thread each week with an updated picture of Dandie. That is just me. I do not want to clog up the forum with a new thread about Dandie everytime I want to post a new picture. This is why I choose to continue on my Dandie thread. To me...this makes sense.

Exactly!

Like I mentioned earliar,I know just from lack of response I get when I do post new pictures, the responses are less & less, because many have lost interest in looking at Jasper & Trapp. Many do look, and I love reading your responses(THANK -YOU) but it's not like it was early on. And I'm sure its because they are not interested any longer.

But I will not start a new thread, just to post a new picture. That would be taking up space on the forum.

And I will not use Photobucket,or Flicker.I have a Shutterfly album, but there again, there are only a handful of folks that even look there.I know they are not looking at my pictures here, why would they go to a specific site to look at pictures.

I will continue to add periodically new pictures here,as that is what my premium membership has given for me to utilize.Whether folks take a peek now & again, that is thier choice.

I urge any member to support Sheltie Nation with a premium membership, but I'm not going to loose sleep over who is looking or even reads my updates. They have choices, they can or they don't have to.
