"Who wants to go outside?"

Yogi is the only one who reguarly asks to go out. Revel has only done this when poorly. During waking hours Yogi will just walk to the door, stand a few seconds then walk back into the sitting room, then walk back out and repeat as many times as necessary before the message is noticed. It's usually noticed quickly! At night he's in his crate and if he needs to go he has a really urgent whimper/cry that usually penetrates the deepest sleep!

Going for a walk is getting more manic as they get older. As a pup Revel was disinterested in walking, but when he was about a year we started going out with someone else who had shelties and that quickly got his interest. Now if I put on my walking boots and cap, he knows and there is a lot of barking. When you're bent down with your ear on the same level as his mouth the barking is so loud it's painful. (Revel has a deep bark for a sheltie) so recently I'm afraid the citrus spray Aboistop collar has reappeared out of the cupboard. It only has to go off once for instant results:smile2: I just sit it by the back door and it does the trick. However, because he is getting older and was poorly last year, I have been negligent about discpline as I'm just so pleased to see him having zest for life:o Thankfully we have no neighbours to complain!

I don't ask. They have a potty bell and Trax and Maverick ring it when they want to go outside either to pee or to play. When Maverick is bored he'll ring it every 5 minutes! :lol:

Boo is like Trax & Maverick. I have a christmas jingle bell on the backdoor and when he wants out he just knocks it back & forth with his nose. Of course if I don't leap up and sprint to the door he will come into where I am and bark at me. I guess he figures I didn't hear it.
 
I don't really ask my dogs if they want to go outside. First, they typically ask me and secondly, I'll just grab their leashes (without saying anything). However, when I get their leashes, Miko, if excited will make his "I need to go out" playful chuffing noises. Koji will start to whine or bark and get antsy. Miko's calm and patient, Koji is like halfway out the door before I can do anything (not really).

It's so interesting how much Bentley and Miko are alike. And how much all our dogs are so different and yet the same.
 
It depends.

If I say "outside" that means "Boring...Mom is just letting us outside to poop".:sleepy:

If I say "walk" that means major jumps and bounces. "Yippee, yippee! Let's go! Come on, come on! What's taking you so long!" :smile2::smile2:
 
When Mya needs to go outside she starts pacing the floor. All I have to ask her "Gotta go outside?"
Then she really starts pacing around and barks all the way downstairs and into the backyard.

When ask her " wanna go for a walk" well.....the barking and all the craziness starts.
She does a yap here and there until we hit the trails.
 
Che goes under the door and pushes himself tightly into the crack of the door into sitting position any time he sees me getting dressed and ready for the door. Che is not allowed to leave until he sits and waits for me to step out... which might be hard since Che ready to fall out once the door opened:lol:
 
During the day they are excited to go out but before bed time both are usually napping so we have to wake them up. Zak gets excited now when I get his leash to go for a walkj- has not made the connection yet when I say
"walk". Maggie knows what that means and she is always ready to go.
They both love to go out side in our back yard- it is fenced and since our weather changed today I had a hard time getting Zak to come inside.
 
Cozmo loves the word "outside" as he loves to be in our yard (about a 1/4 acre fenced). He knows there are cats to chase and things to bark at. Now, don't laugh.......when he needs do his "chores" usually won't make a sound, but circles the dining room table (no idea of where he got this) once, then heads to the front door. If he hasn't got our attention, he circles again, and looks at us the entire time he's heading to the door. Now, I love to play with his mind a little, so sometimes will let him circle the table a third time and when he is headed to the door I'll ask "do you want to to OUTSIDE" and he sprints to the door. When we are leaving the yard for a walk on leash, he doesn't get overly excited until we are off the porch, then he shows it.

Ours use the doggie door. But when we ask, "Who wants to go for a walk?" there's a deafening racket! Everyone's leaping and barking and racing around to crowd out first! Joy, oh joy! :lol:
