Worrisome Day Yesterday

Honey threw up yesterday, late morning...which in itself always makes me worry...but yesterday was so much worse! For the first time in her life she got super lathargic from being sick. She seemed to have trouble standing, and would sway slightly, her walk was closer to a hobble, she'd come up to drink water and get right up to it and then jerk away like she was scared.

Which worried me further, because her nose was super dry and her tongue had been hanging out (just a little bit of it) for about an hour and a half. We were over my moms and she didn't even want to play with my nieces or my moms dog.

She's never like that when she's sick. When she had horrible diarrhea almost as soon as we got her, any of the handful of times she's thrown up in the past. I kept cuddling her and didn't want to take my eyes off her. I was even giving her bottled water because sometimes she's more likely to take a drink if she can lap it up as it pours.

I got teased so much by everyone. I don't think anyone other than my mother understands how much you can bond with an animal when you're alone with them all day long.

Eventually I had the idea to give her some wet food with a good deal of water mixed in. That tempted her into getting a decent drink. Once she had a bit of water, she started improving rapidly. Repeated it a few times and in about two hours she started playing with my moms dog and running around with the girls.

She still would lay down in corners quietly for long bouts though.

Today she's back to her normal high energy self. I've been mixing yogurt into water to get her some probiotics and ensure she keeps hydrated.

I've never been so worried for her. While everyone was eating dinner she even let me hold her on my lap all curled up and quiet, not even begging. She never stays in laps for longer than a few seconds!

Oh gosh...that would be a real scare! I'm glad that she is doing better. Please keep us posted on how she is doing.

I am glad Honey seems her normal self today...that was an awful scare.

Keep a close eye on her and if you see any of these symptoms return I would definitely have your vet check her out immediately and possibly do a blood panel to make sure there is no underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

The anxiety of watching your sick baby can be almost overwhelming. Let us know how she is doing please.

Honey's bout with vomiting reminded me of a few items I need for doggie med kit--pedialyte and pepto bismol.

I sure understand your concern, and am really glad to hear Honey is feeling better today. I think I would still do a vet visit as a precaution and please, keep us posted. Sending prayers your way. :fl

Honey continues to do well today. I went out and purchased some high quality wet food and have broken up her normal 2 meals into 4 smaller ones, all watered down still.

I have to get her in for an update on some vaccine, so we'll be at the vets this week and I'll be sure to mention it so she can double check everything.

Honey is of course devastated over the lingering repercussions of being sick: No People Food. It's cruel and unusual in her mind, especially given that she's missed out on salmon.

LOL A day without salmon is cruel treatment indeed! So glad she is doing well.

I agree with getting a blood panel done.
My Billy had similar symptoms and it turned out he had gallbladder disease.

Glad she feels better today! See a vet to keep her that way.
I know you are concerned and can see small changes others over look! :biggrin2:

I, also, agree with a vet visit and blood panel for Honey, to be safe.

Keeping both you and Honey in my prayers.

Please continue to update us. Thank you.

i'm glad Honey is feeling better. i would definitely mention it to the vet if you make an appointment. but i wouldnt give her a vaccine if she is feeling sick. her immune system might be weak right now.
