Try brown rice instead, and I was feeding max that wellness core and that's when his spec spl went through the roof so stick with the dr. Food!!!! I go Tuesday for new blood work since switching dog food so we will see. But no wellness core, please!
 
String beans are great I give them to max at night to have something always in his tummy. But you can use that with his meals to as a filler. I give chicken breast with his kibble, then late night he get string beans.
 
Hope Blaze is feeling better. Our angel Hollie had gallbladder issues so I know how difficult this is. And she was so stoic we didn't know she was sick until she was very sick. We have since learned that this is common in shelties b/c they normally have high cholesterol. We try to keep Shelby's diet as low in fat as possible. Fortunately for us she LOVES fresh fruit and veggies so they make great low fat treats.

Praying that the low fat diet and meds help.
 
Your a great mom being persistent to find the problem. May I add a great care-taker too. All good thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery.
