Yogi's bad day

This happened with Meggie a few months back. When I saw the blood I thought I would die!

I'm glad Yogi is feeling better. It's amazing to me how quickly they bounce back. Little troopers!

Julia I am so glad Yogi is on the way to recovery. I was literally shaking when I saw about a T of blood come out with Gypsy's stool this summer so I understand the terror you felt. Praying he is back to his old self soon.

Poor Yogi, it does sound like he had a bad day! I've never heard of an anal gland abscess, how scary for you! I would have gone to pieces too if I'd seen all of that blood!

I hope he's feeling better soon and back to his usual chipper self.

Poor Yogi, that sounds awful:( I freak out at any sign of blood on Cadbury, but if it had been there I would have been in a panic shrieking bowel cancer or something.

Yogi here. I just want to say thank you for all your kind words and good wishes, they've helped me feel a lot better. I've had better days than yesterday, being poked and squeezed in my personal region was unplesant to say the least:eek2: I am feeling perkier today, not quite back to my normal self but tons of improvement since yesterday. I'm not enjoying the meds though and will be glad to leave off the 'joys' of home cooking - so far mum has managed to burn the rice and evaporate the fish:uhoh:

Julia here - I also want to say how I appreciated everyone's kind words. I was still quite shaky last night after the trauma of the day. Anal glands aren't something I have encountered before and there hadn't really been any outward signs that anything was wrong in that department until yesterday. I'm lucky we have such a great vet who was able to see him straight away. :smile2:

Update:

Well I took Yogi in for his check up. I was a bit surprised to see a different vet than the one we saw on Tuesday, especially as the appt had been made specifically to see the original vet....
The new vet also had a student in the consulting room and checked Yogi's case history with me and then checked the anal glands. As I posted yesterday I was pleased with how he was getting on and he'd been for a walk today and been fine, so I was rather surprised and not a little concerned when this vet seemed to take the opposite view, that there should still have been blood in the anal glands. Now he wants me to call first thing tomorrow morning so I can speak with both vets. Yogi appears ok, still perhaps a bit quiet and more cuddly than usual. However, if I hadn't known anything had been wrong I don't think I would even have noticed this. Now I am worrying that perhaps there is something else wrong. :confused2:

Yogi, I just read about your awful ordeal. I'm sure glad your Mom was quick to take you to the vet! take your time eating -- it may be a few days before your back to your old self.

Further Update

I call the vet this morning and spoke to the original vet who treated Yogi. She said it was just surprising that the infection had cleared so quickly as often anal gland infections are difficult to treat due to their isolation and difficulty in getting the antibiotics to the area. However she was pleased that all was going well and said all the indications were it was an anal gland infection with nothing to do with the digestie tract, which was my fear following the cryptic comments of yesterday's vet. The weather was not so crazy today so we had our walk as usual and Yogi is more or less back to normal now. :smile2: He goes back in a month for a check to make sure nothing nasty is building up again.
