This video was made by AKC. I've been wanting to buy it, but never found it for sale anywhere, so it was awesome to find it on youtube. The color is how AKC classifies the sheltie... and the following is how you register puppies.
I'm putting in parentheses explanations of each of the colors... for those who don't understand and how they described the colors in the videos.

(Sable) Sable & White, Sable Merle & White, White & Sable, White & Sable Merle. (Color Headed Whites) All these are considered the sable color.

(Black) Black & White(Bi-black's) Black White & Tan(Tri's), White Black & Tan, White & Black(Color Headed Whites) All these are considered black dogs.

(Blue Merle) Blue Merle & White(what we call Bi-blues) Blue Merle White & Tan(what we call Blue Merle's) White Blue Merle & White Blue Merle & Tan.(Color headed Whites All these are considered Blue Merle dogs.

So you see our breed according to AKC is three colors... Sable, Black and Blue Merle. Even though we generally don't speak of them that way.

Blue eyes are not permitted on sable merle's in the show ring. Sable merles are classified as sables and blue eyes are heavily penalized on sables.

I enjoyed the videos so much, thanks for posting them. When you see these my head hurts to think what the breeders have to watch for, it really makes one realize there are so many things.

I did get tickled at a few things. Lucky has a gay tail, and has one ear up, one down. He is my show dog though. Some people thought he was a girl.

Lil' Lady has more coat then some males. Otherswise she believes she is the perfect sheltie, but so do I somedays. LOL Nothing prissy about her when it comes to getting dirty. Her ears are small so that might be a fault, but she is a little sheltie with a little sweet face (LOL).

Very interesting videos, loved watching them.
 
What a terrific find. I so enjoyed them all it really explains so much. I can only imagine trying to by one to show and how to remember all of that info. I just loved watching them move. Thanks for sharing.

It's interesting to see how many of the desirable conformation traits in shelties are what I were taught to look for when judging halter and performance classes with horses. But I can't imagine cross-firing or cow hocks would be desirable in any performance animal.

Thought their sheltie is to collie and shetland pony is to a horse comparison was a little weak but I can't expect the AKC to really know that much about equids.
 
Awww! I wish I could have seen them, it would have been very helpful in learning the SS standard. :(
