Adopted Sheltie/May be biter

I'm so glad things are going better and you stuck w/ it! This excellent practice for being a foster parent. Little Diego can be a roll model for your future foster children. I think this was meant to be!

Hey all...guess who picked up a doll rattle yesterday & carried through house? It's like no one ever taught him how to play. This Maltese is so helping him. He won't hardly go out (or back in) w/o his 'buddy.' He just about always comes/lays in lap now if I'm in floor. (after circling me in a few times)

I also think God was behind this little guy coming to us. We're considering foster care/adoption & this is how many are @ first. Plus I'm learning about trust myself. God speaks our language...whatever it may be.

So many things animals teach us if we're willing to listen.

Definitely decided name is Diego. Suits him.

I am so thrilled to hear how well Diego is doing. God does often send our furbabies to us especially.

Try a Thundershirt -- they really work!

I've sold maybe a dozen or so Thundershirts in the last month....not a single return.....that's an endorsement that it really does work!

I've heard it described like swaddling a baby. It just makes them feel safe and secure. (p.s. I think I'm going to borrow one to try out on Indy...my crazy boy)

KathyL I am thrilled for you and Diego. Great name, and you said that it means to take the place of another. That is exactly how I came to the name Seamus for my sable which in Irish, means to replace or take the place of another.

It warms me up on a cold day to read how well Diego is progressing.

Way to go Diego and not too shabby your own self, Mom.

Hey all, trying to get some good pics to post. My husband's a 'house singer' & was singing a little jig today. Diego decided he likes it. Danced around/up & down with husband. Puts entire new meaning to 'spin me' baby.
When husband went outside, Diego stood @ door whining for him to come back & sing some more.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

Have any of you read "Dog Speak"? Amazing insights in dog language. Did you know they have 1,000,000 better scent than humans? And they have olfactory sensers in the nose that file a person's scent? If they have a bad experience w/someone, it's in the file system forever. They never forget a scent because of the intricate filing system in the nose. God is so smart.

More good news; I think. Diego has decided he likes you in the floor w/him. Just comes & flops in lap/wants belly rubbed/loved all over. Since he sees buddy Miguel (Maltese) in bed w/us, he wants up. Has started jumping in bed & on couches. Marked 2 couches, but have been building immune system up for neutering.
He's just so doggone handsome & now nice, it's hard to tell him NO re: cuddling in bed. Any suggestions to 'train' him not to get on furniture besides 'OFF.'

if the maltese is allowed on the bed/couch, it'll be hard to teach the sheltie to stay off. they learn what is acceptable by watching the other dogs. also, they can get jealous. (if you're on the couch with one dog, the other dog wants in on it too, etc...)

So glad he is doing better!!

If you don't want the behaviour you really simply cannot reinforce it...
So Diego should not never be invited up there and should not be having belly rubs and playtime with Maltese there either... This allows him to practice the behaviour you don't want! It is MUCH harder to un-train because what they learn first they learn best!

Personally I love my dogs with me on the furniture, so I never corrected that, lol
