Maggie and Zak were playing and Maggie has a limp on her left front paw. I have iced it and can't recall if is it safe to give her a bit of an asprin? Any one out there know? thanks much

Hi Susan,

I think I'd give her a benedryl, personally. It will make her a little sleepy which will keep her off of it.

Our vet discourages aspirin, or even coated aspirin like Ascriptin. However, we have had other vets that recommend Ascriptin. Again though..a benedryl might do the trick for now especially if you don't have anything else handy.. Just my opinion, and what I'd do. Poor baby!

We give one baby aspirin to adult Shelties when needed. I use the low-dose Ecotrin (same mg as baby aspirin: 81) so it's coated to avoid stomach issues, but I'm sure baby aspirin is fine too.

If you use Benadryl, I'd use the children's formula, not the adult. We've used that too for insect stings.

Earnhardt was on a baby asperin regimin before the deremaxx for his pain in his hips. Our vet said he was to get 1/2 a baby asperin every 4 days.So that may be something to keep in mind.

Maggie is so much better and late yesterday I was petting her head and felt what I thought was a scab from a scratch and well no it was a little brown tick. After I took it off she stopped limping, odd huh. She still limped a bit after laying down but for her that is normal. Today she is fine and dandy.
