Bad news for Little Bear : (

So sorry to hear about your troubles! Che just came off his 2 months of doxy for TBD of some kind although he was asymptomatic except for limping. So hard when babies are sick!:hugs
The only good news I see that doxy generally helpful and oldie drug with little problems.

He can't start the Doxy just yet..Right now I'm thrilled with the results of the metronidazole..no more cleaning up diarrhea splatter!

I hope Little Bear recovers quickly!! Make sure you have him on some daily Milk Thistle while he is on those antibiotics!

I've never heard of giving dogs milk thistle with antibiotics. My vet didn't mention it anyways..is it BC antibiotics can cause liver damage?

Yes, it protects the liver. My Greyson went into acute liver failure while on a course of doxy, he was not on milk thistle. We learned the hard way! Liver issues seem to be common in Shelties, so it is better to err on the side of caution.

Poor Little Bear. I hope he recovers fast.

BTW, in case it wasn't covered, if the diarrhea isn't related to the tick issue, make sure you don't have any recalled dog food or treats.

Koji had what sounds like what LB has (explosive diarrhea) and later I wondered....was it from the chicken jerky and sweet potato treats I gave him. Which yes, were from China and both are NOT recalled, but have been known to make dogs sick.

If it's all tick related, well, darn those ticks!
:hugs to you, LB, and Claussen with the crazy cowlicks.

Actually, gastric problems including vomiting and diarrhea were on the list of symptoms for Anaplasma. I feed them Orijen, and I was training them with Bil-Jac liver treats. I'll have to look into if that's been recalled. However, the whole salmonella issue isn't going to make dogs sick (ppl feed their dogs raw chicken all the time)-it's just a cross contamination issue. ( At least that's the info I was given today). But I'm not sure about any other recalls right now. I'm going to do some research right now.

So sorry to hear about little Bear. I disagree dogs can get sick from Samonella poisoning. My Chandler got very sick last year after eating contaminated treats. He had already been having a tough year and his immune system was definitely low which did not help him fight it.
