Baker says hello!

I cried for a year after my first Sheltie, Scruffy, died -- long after Pixie had joined our family. I remember coming across a picture of Scruffy and my son on Christmas day, five months after she died, that sent me away from the festivties to my room in tears. I didn't love Pixie any less, but I so missed Scruffy's traits and personality. They are all different. Baker will be different from Trace, and that's a good thing. No one will ever take Trace's place, and Baker will have his own spot in your heart.

Don't beat yourself up for the breakdowns. You will never wash away Trace. Let yourself enjoy the puppy preparations and your new arrival. It will help you heal and remember Trace with joy.

Thanks all... a much better day today, after crying myself to sleep last night.

Got Baker's crate/bedroom all set up for him. Also bought a bag of puppy food and only added one new toy to the shopping cart - well, actually 2 since Toby got a matching one (a bit larger). Hard to believe that one week from now we will have that sweet little boy here with us. So excited!

More than a little nervous about facing the puppy stage again after about 5 years, but I am hoping for the best. I can never say enough how happy I am to have found SN - you guys are all awesome! I thought I was prepared with Trace - I feel like I know so much more now about ears, grooming etc.

Wish me luck! :)

I still cry when I think about my <3cat Dusty... I blame him for the fact that I now have three cats instead of the two I had when I let him go, almost a year and a half ago... he was such an awesome little guy! That we all miss our furry little companions so terribly I think speaks to just how great each and every of them are, and all in their own way!

And this roly, poly little fluffball looks like he's going to wrap you around one of his furry little paws and work his way into his own special spot in your heart.

Kristie, no loss ever goes away...but Baker will keep you VERY busy, make you laugh again and Trace would be so happy to know his beloved Mom is getting on with her life. :smile2:

We're almost there! We head to the camper tomorrow afternoon, relax a little, then Saturday morning we go pick up Baker. I am so excited!

It's about a 3 hour ride back home, and I know I should probably crate him, but I so want to just snuggle him, play with his little paws, watch him sleep on my lap....

Yay! Can't wait!

This is going to be your best 4th of July weekend ever!! So excited for you!

Blame me for being an over vigilant Grandmother...but if you are going to hold wee Baker in your lap I would suggest you sit in a back seat and not in the front passenger seat. A deployed air bag could cause him severe harm (even in your lap) just as it can to an infant child. OK...taking off my Grandma hat now. :smile2:

Thanks Trini - I hadn't thought of that. Good idea! My husband is a really safe driver, but we will be on the road in the middle of a holiday weekend - have to worry about the not so safe drivers that are sure to be out there.
