I cried for a year after my first Sheltie, Scruffy, died -- long after Pixie had joined our family. I remember coming across a picture of Scruffy and my son on Christmas day, five months after she died, that sent me away from the festivties to my room in tears. I didn't love Pixie any less, but I so missed Scruffy's traits and personality. They are all different. Baker will be different from Trace, and that's a good thing. No one will ever take Trace's place, and Baker will have his own spot in your heart.
Don't beat yourself up for the breakdowns. You will never wash away Trace. Let yourself enjoy the puppy preparations and your new arrival. It will help you heal and remember Trace with joy.
