Bathing...with a touch of Ears

I may give the detatchol or if not that vegetable oil a try then. There are one or two spots that have a good bit of glue. One of them on the tip of his left ear. A cotton ball and a fine tooth comb sounds good.

I guess I'm just way too lazy for tipping  I'll run them for miles and play until my arms fall off, but he just fights me too much even trying to clean the ears for me to keep tipping them.

Whiskey is very concerned about his ear situation, always sniffing and licking at them.

I couldn't tip Duncan's ears. I also felt too guilty because I did it wrong and he itched at it constantly, making a little red spot. I removed them and tried band-aids, which didn't really work either. If I could go back, I would contact a local breeder and ask them to do it correctly for me and I would have stuck with it. I feel like there is a taboo associated with ears not tipped.

I gave up on Meggie's ears because I felt like I was torturing her for no reason. I wasn't going to show her and she doesn't have giant ears. They are well suited for the size of her head. My daughter poo-pooed me for giving up. But once she met Meggie in person she couldn't stop from saying how cute she was. I personally don't care either way. Cooper has beautifully tipped ears (no thanks to me) and he is gorgeous. Meggie has perfectly pricked ears and she is the cutest sheltie that ever lived. Just ask her, she'll tell you!

So all that to say, don't beat yourself up if you decide to let Reagan's ears go prick. He'll still be his adorable self!!!

I would say there is a high likely hood

And I am actually quite versed in the policies of both your presidents administrations. Haha.

I am too, but the general public does not remember and in fact most people when I said Cleveland thought of the city first.

I worry sometimes about McKinley being attached to a president that was assassinated. But I loved the name.

Interestingly enough, I got a comment on the positive side about Duncan's ears tonight. One of the agility trainers was giving him some love after class and said, "You have the cutest ears!" I felt better about the situation.

There are those who feel that since it is in the standard, you MUST tip your dog's ears. I don't really agree, I just wish others who slaved over the tipping of ears wouldn't look down their nose at me.

Both of my dogs have HUGE ears. Honestly, until I came to this forum I knew little to knowing about showing standards (I still don't know everything, but I have learned a few things!). I saw that everybody's shelties had nicer looking ears than my first sheltie, Gizmo, did. I wanted to know what all this "ear tipping" was about.

Things didn't work out for Smudge in that way, and I guess you could say they didn't for Fluffy, either. Fluffy was a great dog to try it out with though. Even Jennifer couldn't believe that she did not squirm! Jennifer only did them once, but even after that Fluffy was very well behaved about her ears.

I just like the way they look. Ear glueing/taping takes work - a year long event in some cases. When I see a dog with tipped ears I know their owner put a lot of work into them, and it impresses me. :biggrin2:

I know some shelties have naturally tipped ears, but I've had three shelties in my life. Gizmo, Smudge, and Fluffy. Guess how many had naturally tipped ears?

That's a big fat none.

I thought of the city first as well, but after seeing your other dog's name it clicked fairly quickly. I don't think you have much to worry over as far as the assassination, he had the nobility to even ask for his supporters to cease in the "flogging" of his attacker so you have character attactched to the name if nothing else. Not to mention scottish decent :wink2:

You're far enough back that many won't recognize it at all though so you certainly chose wisely.

-- And Whiskey's ears are HUGE, I feel that they take up most of his facial expression, but I also think they give him character. Even though one of those characters you may not want to get too damp or feed after midnight

Of all the Presidents to pick... *sigh* haahahhaaha
I need a shot of Whiskey now ;)
No need to tip the ears if you don't want to bother, Toffee and Whiskey have wonky ears and aren't they gorgeous in their cuteness? LOL
Plus they always look like they are thinking ;)

Cleveland's ears were pricked and HUGE! They were like satellite dishes and tended to work independently of one another which was not only charming but amusing. I thought he was adorable.

McKinley's are tipped and are very expressive as well. I find them charming and amusing as well. I think he is adorable.

I have never met a sheltie that was not just adorable, prick ears, tipped ears, doesn't matter to me.

I used vegetable oil to remove the glue on Abigail's ears after she had a bad reaction to the glue remover that I had used the first time. It worked so well, I am not sure why everyone does not use it.
Love the new name you picked.
