No barking here,but I pick a time usuallly when they are outside just prior to meals,to fix bowls. Breakfast meals are done the night before.Supper meals,are done so they do not see me fix anything.

However prior to Japser coming home,I would fix meals while they wer in the house most times.Trapp was a jumping fool,almost one time pulling the dish down out of my hand.And he would bark.

I started doing what was suggested,and stopping what I was doing,and walking away.He caught on pretty quick.

Jasper is a spinner..no barking,but is overly exciteable, just the sound of the lid closing on the food bin,sends him into a spinning mode.I have never seen a puppy spin like this,but his little legs move let me tell ya.

Earnhardt has never barked for his meal.

And when we are eating,they are in living room.No barking,no wandering close into kitchen,until we are done.

Ashley, maybe it is just a phase. Buffy went through a phase like this when she was about Lexi's age where she barked during dinner. The difference was that instead of barking for her dinner she barked during ours (for no good reason other than that we were paying attention to our food instead of her). Per our trainer's advice, we just ignored her if she was barking for attention or barking for a treat. She still barks for attention once in a while but much more rarely than when she was younger.

Randi, your description of the glare cracks me up, I don't know why. I have given Buffy the glare before too, it often does work!

Oh yes indeed. We have barking and twirling and jumping and zoomies. It's quite the event. No one sleeps in my house when I'm making doggie breakfast!

It really does work. I cross my arms and just glare at her. If Bailey could speak, she would say "uh-oh she means business..."

no barking there but again, Che is only 6 months, so who knows what he will develop yet... so far he is not barky at all.... when stranger in his house/ garden, when he wants to play with cat and when you get out shovel or broom....
so he sits and waits for his meals to be prepped... oh yeah, he also counter surfs so anything within his reach is fair game....
he does know his " place" but his stay there is not reliable yet for long time

When I do the "glare" Indy just circles to the other side of the kitchen island, to avoid my look. He's a sneaky little sob!

Have you tried making her sit or lie down? I know Noah used to be out of control come food time with the barking running...etc..Ive got him to be quiet and somewhat patient by making him sit by my side while im getting his food. He's gotten 98% better...I left the 2% due to those days where he tries but still cant contain himself!

No barkers here at meal time. They just aren't that interested in dinner..

No Toffee was handfed a lot for training when he was younger, so he never got into hyper alert for food bowl time.
However, the routine is down pat, I preapre his meal, then walk to the room where kibble is add a few sprinkles to his raw food, then back to the kitchen, of course he follows!
Then he sits in front where food bowl goes, as soon as he sits I put it down, he does the WATCH ME, (only time he is VERY good at it) then waits until I say, Ok go
The other day I forgot the watch me because I was distracted, and had said ok, go ahead... not quite half a minute later, I am wondering why he is not eating! He was STILL watching me washing dishes, LOL He doesn't break routine apparently LOL

Mine don't bark ,but Zak runs in cricles. You can be in the kitchen and run through the dinning room, living room hallway and back to the kitchen- he does this all the time. He used to just sit still and Maggie would be the one doing the loop as she always has but now she sits and Zak does the loops but he goe so fast he keeps wiping out on the flooring in the dinning room and kitchen. I tell him to sit and sometimes he will do it an sometimes not. If Mark is home he holds him or puts a leash on him.
I am sure once he gets older and totally understands the sit/stay it will be better although it never worked with Maggie. She used to bark a lot while I fix their dinner but not so much now unless she knows I am fixing an egg.

Rookie barks when we get OUR dinner! lol.. I am finding that if I put him in a "down" position, he does much better. He used to bark when I'd get his dinner...but waiting him out until "quiet time" worked wonders.. Also, the "sit" command.
