Being into dogs is "uncool" :(

Thanks everyone :) Your kind words, and nice posts made me smile.

I know that you are all right...it's not worth me getting upset. But, losing friends is never fun, even if you know it's for the best. Obviously I no longer want to be friends with them, but I thought they were better than that.

Oh well--who needs them when I have Sheltie Forums?! :biggrin2:

At one time or another, I think we've all been disappointed by friends who turned out to be selfish louts. Who knows? Maybe they'll grow up someday. Or, not. Either way, you still have us!

Ashley, I'm so sorry. I think we've all had our share of friends who do not have our best interests in mind. Focus on the ones who are great and don't fret about them (as much as is possible). Thane's best man turned out to be very flaky over the years and it took some getting over. Things change, we grow and others sometimes don't.

On a side note, maybe if both of us end up near Asheville in the future (Thane and I secretly like hippies and may even be hippies in disguise) - we can have lots of agility fun on mountains.

I will come up and shed all over their house (sorry not a mean dog) and maybe drop a poo on the porch to defend my Lexi

Seriously ignore them and get on with things, maybe even chuckle at the childishness of it.

No really a steamer that will give them nightmares and stain the porch forever

I'm sorry you're going through this, Ashley. It's tough when people we thought were close to us disappoint us. It almost sounds to me like your... ahem, "friends" are jealous of your relationship with the dogs. No one has ever, or will ever, accuse me of being tactful, and I am old enough that I'm perfectly comfortable telling people that I'd rather be with dogs than people. Lots of people don't get that, and I don't care. I don't expect them to share my interest, but I do expect them to respect it. Clearly, these folks don't, and they aren't your friends.

I second the notion of blocking them on Facebook. If you keep reading (or posting) you are giving them just what they want. Ignoring them is the best medicine. And then give your pups a pat, do go to a show, and make some new friends who appreciate you for who you are, like we do!!

Ashley I'm sorry that your former friends are refusing your offer of discussion/conversation. I'm even more sorry that they are not only being stiff-necked about talking with you...they're apparently talking behind your back to their contacts about your dogs and your activities with your dogs.

I certainly support you and your husband whatever choice you make about high road vs. low road vs. confrontation....but I'd recommend just ignoring or blocking the indirect info from them (facebook, etc) and waiting for them to make direct contact, if ever.

I've had folks in my life migrate out of my circle ....sometimes they act all weirdo because they're trying to impress a new friend and then when things fall apart with the new friend they come back....sometimes they just go away ......and sometimes former friends become adversaries. There's times when I've shouldered the "blame" for the change and other times its very obvious that we've grown apart or that the other person made a HUGE change in their lifestyles and goals. Its always hard to go through but chin up and hug those puppies and realize that you and your husband and pups are a special family and anyone that doesn't want to celebrate such a lovely unit doesn't deserve to bask in your presence.

You people down that far south are probably too nice... seriously this is taking all the fun out of a good ole verbal bashing in of their heads on facebook (just make sure you are done with them, before you unleash me)

You can blame this northern bleedin' liberal Maritimer German, with an 'English' vocabulary learned from Sailors and GI's :eek2: you had nuffin' to do with it :)

Personally, I am with Sca!
