Bentley is sick

A mystery indeed, how very curious. I think that you and your husband might have hit upon the reason though with your chicken wrapper theory. I say this because Harper Lee was a very naughty girl last week.

She managed to get up on the micro wave cart, on the second shelf. The shelf is a good foot, foot and a half higher than she is high. I had a double wrapped bag of brown sugar tucked behind some cookbooks. When my husband and I got home Harper greeted us with an unpleasant surprise. She had managed to get up on that shelf, which is not wide enough to hold her and extract the sugar, bag and all and proceeded to eat the plastic and sugar.

I called the vet immediately, he told us to watch for any violent vomiting and if that were the case to bring her in pronto. He said a little vomiting was no cause for alarm. He also asked how much bag she had ingested, not too concerned about the brown sugar.

Thus began my archeological dig! As she vomited, I scooped up bag parts and recreated the top of the bag, she had destroyed. She got the whole bag up. After a little while the vomiting calmed down and as she had purged herself of the whole bag, I rested easier. She was understandably contrite and subdued and oh so sad to be puking, on the bed, on the carpet, on..... well you get the picture.

She had a little diarrhea, but things after a day or two got quickly back to normal.

There is no longer any brown sugar, or any other kind of food substance on any of the microwave shelves, even the ones that are four feet tall!!!

Hope things calm down for you tout sweet:yes:

Don't you just hate it when the dogs leave you these little puzzles to solve!

They could both have eaten the same thing, but Lexi managed to hork it out (then tried to get it in again) while Bentley seems to be having more problems (he's had surgery afterall before, not sure if that makes a difference to how effective he can move his gut).

At least they are playing, eating and drinking normally! The poop will come for Bentley!

Well, I am now relatively certain that what Lexi threw up was an unrolled rawhide (it has re-hardened-eww!). I should note that I never buy those, but my mom brought it for her so I gave it to her the other day when we were taking care of Bentley. I also usually keep a really close eye on her, but we were cleaning up, etc...and she must have swallowed a few layers. I should note that she will NEVER get a rawhide again after seeing what it looked like after she threw it up--didn't digest it at all!!! :dead:

If Bentley doesn't go to the bathroom today we're going to take him in first thing tomorrow for an x-ray. I'm nervous again :

I am so sorry that you are going through this again. I absolutely hate that not knowing feeling. It is so unsettling. My thoughts are with you today and hopefully it will not be anything too serious.

Oh dear! What a coincidence Lexi got sick on the rawhide while all this is going on. Good thing it wasn't anything worse.

I'll be sending thoughts for Bentley today. Hang in there, hopefully tonight is the night for a good regular solid poop.

Yuck! Did Bentley eat the same rawhide?

I do remember when Bailey was on metrodinazole, it took her a few days to produce a bowel movement.

Fingers crossed that Bentley is just blocked up from the medication.

It takes our girls a while to go on Metro as well.

Sending good thoughts to your sick pup. It is so amazing how they can pick up on one another's ailments. Whenever one of our girls isn't feeling well the other two sort of tip toe around her.

Hope this gets cleared up soon.

Nope, Bentley doesn't eat rawhide. I wish I could figure it out!

Thanks for the info about the metro. I hope you're right! I didn't give him any yesterday so hopefully it will get out of his system and he'll be ready to go!

How are your furkids tonight??? Just a thought, the rolled rawhides with the knots and the end make me nervous too. I buy the rawhide chips and that way, if they swallow a chunk, it's small enough to pass.....
