Love the weather here, but then we do pay (and pay and pay) for the privilege.
We have done a fair bit of multi-day travelling; road trips to the grand canyon, road trips to missouri with stops in colorado, road trip to Oregon along the coast. Lots of camping when he was younger that was 4-6 hrs away. I hear you about tick treatment; I found several on him when we were in Oregon I find the heat 100X harder on him then cold weather, and by that it starts at anything over 60-65 now that he's older.

Our biggest advantage is being able to go to ocean every weekend, oddly enough we rarely went until he was 7-8 yrs old and we were past the backpacking/camping stage. Then I found out he loved it! Now we go twice a month on average.

I totally understand about the heat, here in Winnipeg we go from -30 C in the winter to +30 in June and July and sometimes in August! Last summer was so hot, if I didn't walk the dogs by 8 am we didn't go.
Now we're in the sloppy wet roads and icy sidewalks stage with the spring melt (going to be awhile before I see any grass in the yard) so besides the wet (and all the sand on the roads lol) it's really the perfect cool weather to walk them. Of course we get home and they go straight into the tub!
