Blue eyes?

I am betting she is a cryptic blue not a tri. She may appear to be a tri but she probably has a couple of blue hairs somewhere on her body. My cryptic blue looks like a tri except she has 1 ear that has a little blue on it. SHe also has 1 blue eye.

I have not heard about cryptic blues, until this thread. Lily has some mixed white and black hair on the tip of one ear, but only very faint. With the combination of her three colors, I thought she was just a tri, with a blue eye. To us, it does not change how we feel about her. She brings joy to our entire family, every day. I have her lineage somewhere, but since we had her spayed very early, her pedigree was not of consequence to us.
I still would like to learn more about this thread.

Thank you

Van,

Please pull out her pedigree and let us know what colors her parents were. I don't have the knowledge that others have, but I do possess an infinite curiousity. I also love a good puzzle!!

All I have is the dog registration form that states who her sire and dam are. Since we had no intention to breed her, nor show her, we did not see the need to register her.
I went on that pedigree lines web site to see if they were listed there, but they were not.
Her sire is Sir Tiptailed Bailey Boy DL88166004.
Her dam is Princess Belle VIII DL81243405.

It would be neat to have her pedigree for several generations, just for information sake, and to see what her true heritage colors are, but we still see no real need to apply for registration now at a cost of $104+.
She is with us forever. We would never allow someone else to have her.
We refuse to even board her when we go out of town. I will never leave one of our daughters, hence, we will not do that to her, either. She loves to travel with us and does it fantastically. We make arrangements/ accomodations where we go so that she is welcome also.

This shows pedigree info for Sir Tiptailed Bailey Boy. His sire was a sable and his dam was a sable MERLE. Ta-da!! It didn't go further back than that.

There were no results on the dam.

Also, this site came up:

Sir Tiptailed Bailey Boy got around. :) Interesting to see that just a few generations out, there is a gorgeous bi-black. I traced a few lines of progeny through Pedigree Lines and found a few other Bi-colors (blues and blacks) through the lines. Definitely some bi-factoring there.

The eye looks a lot like Noah's did - upper half brown, lower half blue - he was a blue merle. His mom was a tri,not sure about his dad. The right eye was brown. His brother, also a blue merle, had both brown eyes.

With the merled eye and paler coat color your dog looks like a sable merle to me, do the tips of its ears appear to be silvered? CEA is a disease that has to do with improper forming of the eye, mostly the rear wall of the eye, outside evidence of it could be a coloboma. A coloboma is a portion of the iris missing. This page shows such defects on aussies, who share the same eye problems as shelties, and have a few others that we don't have. I refer to these pages because I've never found such pages for shelties, and all the herding breeds tend to have the same afflictions. The first page shows defects, the second lots of merled eyes and eye color variations, including the blue eyed tri gene.

Having a merle with eye defects makes this information very interesting to me. One of the pictures looks much like Coop's blind eye. And as with the dog in that picture, Cooper's eye follows the other. I think he has some amount of vision in that eye, be it only lightness/darkness.

$104 to register her???? Goodness what registry are you using? AKC which gives you a 4 generation pedigree when you register is I think only $30-40 and I think thats the gold plan! And if I remember correctly when you mail in your registration form they mail you a certificate to use at the vets for an office visit.

Registration costs go up quite a bit each year that you wait to register. So its $20 for a basic registration within the first year and keeps going up after that.

According to the 2002 AKC Dog Registration Application that I have for Lily, besides the basic fee, plus the fee for the pkg of your choice(either $25 or $17), you would add $35 if you submit the form after Sept 19, 2003, or $65 if submitting after Sept. 19, 2004, as late fees. That is on the 2002 form. The $104 figure comes from the AKC website.

I was thinking you were talking about a dog you had recently purchased. Not thinking 2002....:eek2:
