Boots has oral melanoma

So, miracles do apparently still happen.

Histo-pathologist who's been looking at the jawbone and gum samples is pretty sure it is not a malignant growth. She believes it is some form of filmentious growth that probably happened when he had the initial bum tooth extraction several years ago. She should be getting the Cone Beam CT scan shortly to review before her final report, however she seems pretty confident.

Boots is out chasing the rabbits and treeing the squirrels in the yard.
Rather surreal.

Thanks Everyone.

Histo-Path sent her final report that it is indeed a non-malignant growth.
Apparently this is not uncommon, and I wouldn't be surprised if she writes a paper regarding it as it is something she is keen on. She's on ResearchGate: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Cynthia-Bell-3

Whats rather scary is that this went from an initial biopsy of melanoma, through a secondary and third testing which pronounced sarcoma. I was dead set against significant oral surgery as it seemed to offer only 3-4 months of extended life expectancy in general and 9-12 at the best.
I wonder how many people have ended up going the euthanasia route.

Your experience is definitely scary and eye-opening. I am SO GLAD Boots is OK and going to have much more happy time with you. Thanks so much for sharing your journey and findings with us, that's how we all learn and stay informed.

Very happy for you getting good news after all Boots went through. The information about your journey was definitely an eye opener. Thanks for sharing it with us. Please give Boots a treat for us for being such a good pup.

Very scary indeed…how many people wouldn’t have had the extra testing done and possibly would’ve done euthanasia.
Makes me think of my niece…she has a cat that 5 years ago was diagnosed with oral melanoma and this cat at 17 I think is still going strong. She didn’t do any other testing, opting to make the cat comfortable until it was the right time. We joke about how’s the cat but reading this it’s not funny knowing some may actually not wait for the animal to get sicker…

Wow. What an incredible ending to a scare you certainly didn't need. I'm so glad to hear the diagnosis is confirmed, and Boots will be fine. As others have said, you have to wonder how many people didn't take the time to do all the testing for a definitive answer. Boots is very lucky he has you!!!
