Brooke is dying

It's a miracle, at least a temporary one. The Chinese drug Yunnan Baiyao was invented to stop bleeding, and it WORKS. Brooke's gums were so pale and there was so much blood in her abdomen yesterday. Last night we were sure we were losing her, eyes dim, didn't move for hours in her bed, breathing funny. Gave her another dose last night, but we were sure she wouldn't see the morning. She's a tough girl though and her heart's really strong. We have cried rivers of tears these last hours.

So this morning she shook herself, wanted breakfast and ate it all, went out to potty with a steady, albeit slow gait. Her gums are pinker and her eyes are bright again. She is subdued, but she is back.

That drug is a miracle - a Chinese one. Unfortunately it is only a stop gap. At some point she will have a catastrophic bleed because the tumor is so big. But it has bought us GOOD time - she's not in pain, she's in the kitchen right now hoping Arden will drop a Cheerio on the floor. We are cherishing more time with our girl, and she's not in pain or distress, but we feel whiplash emotionally.

So glad your vet uses this medicine! I don't know how widespread vet adoption is of Chinese herbs, but hopefully this post will inform someone who might someday benefit from it's use.

Thank goodness for this news. I am hoping and praying for her continued positive progress!
My Laddie lived 9 months after his diagnosis with the vet saying only 3-5! I know you will make every moment count with dear Brooke. Give her a pat and kiss! Stay strong... we are here for you!
 
Sharon, any reprieve is a blessing. Emotionally this is such a roller coaster time, it can be exhausting. Every upturn brings hope, every downturn brings heartbreak and tears. Most of us have been where you are and know all too well what you are going though...our hearts are with you and your sweet Brooke. May whatever time she has left be filled with comfort and happiness, surrounded by those who love her.

I can't say enough about Chinese herbs. My holistic vet, with my mainstream vet's endorsement, put Checkers on one after her mast cell tumor removal last year with a name so complicated they can't even say it in my vet's office. It's supposed to boost the immune system somehow and while I hold my breath every day in fear of another tumor appearing, so far it's working. I'm praying for a similar result for Brooke. Every good day is a blessing, Sharon. I hope there are many for you. Sending you hugs.

I am so glad you found a reprieve. This is what took my beloved Lucy. She was extremely lethargic and the vet said there was nothing to do and that she probably wouldn't last the night. It devastated me, but I had her put down rather than drag it out and have her suffer more. I feel for you. The pain of that loss was unbearable.
