thank you- I'm pretty partial to them
but I like all the colors too......someday
Because she is merle should make sure the partner is not a merle. Merle to merle is not a good thing (think defects blindness deafness for example). I believe the chances of a pup being merle in a pairing where one is merle and the other not is one in four. The chances for defects are no more then in any normal pairing where both dogs are healthy and not merle.
I think I already have an album up with some pictures of her. If not I'll add some
Definitely aware and not going to be creating any double merles (this should be a no brainer but then I remember seeing posts of idjuts who didn't know what they were doing or even bother to google, before playing backyard breeder with two merles. so....that info can't be repeated enough) I don't plan on anything more than one litter. I literally had/have a growing list of friends that want pups from her (want may not be the right word...demand is probably more appropriate) and I do want another pup. Her being white factored, CHW potential is there and this friend just happened to have a really handsome tri that is also white factored so that was the plan. Too bad it fell through this time (guess I need to find a backup before next year) but the demanding people can wait.
I might be totally blind but can you link me to the album? I can't find it
How strange, I don't see it either. I guess maybe because I let my premium subscription lapse :-( I'll add some links to Dropbox so you can see them.
So ended up pairing Sansa with a bi-black champion "Sukooru" (Japanese for Squall) that wasn't too far away. The breeders knew they stuff and specialized in shelties (they had a whole gang that was happy, healthy, and really friendly) The whole experience was pleasant.
They also run the local Sheltie club for the JKC so it was a one stop deal for all the paperwork. It's been about a month now, X-ray scheduled in 2 more weeks. Any advice on keeping her calm? She isn't slowed down by the pregnancy though I hid most of her balls and such in an attempt to prevent her from too much rough play or zoomies. My biggest worry is she still bounds up and down from my bed (not too high but still!!)
Day 63 and she still would rather play than pop out the 3 buns in the oven. Not too fun waking up throughout the night just to check. I want to see them colors!
Ooooo the waiting is hard - should be any minute though! Pics please when they arrive!!
That is one gorgeous Sheltie!
Sad news...the first one didn't make it. Took waaaaaay too long The breeder/hospital both said it's very common and the first pup of any dam's first litter not to make it. She had her water break twice within an hour so I was really worried about the next two as well.
Second one popped out without a problem, female. On the teet and strong.
Third one, male, came out head first so I did what I could to help, larger but much weaker than the second one. Isn't too active and not taking to the teet so using a syringe to feed. Need to stay on top of it til it gets some more strength. Been using powdered dog milk mix and some sugar water.
It's been rough, started at around 2AM and finished around 6AM so not much sleep.
I'll get some non-red heatlamp pics up in a moment but the colors are surprising. All three are suuuuper white. Not double merle level but CHWish? With black patches here and there, unless the white fur will turn silver? No brown anywhere so either bi-blue or bi black? Confusing since since Sansa didn't appear to be bi-factored. The sire is bi-black and the owners have a blog with pics of it's parents...mother may be white factored but would that make any sense?
