Can Someone Recommend a Slicker Brush?

I have to confess that before all the best brush type threads, I only had an undercoat rake- that was all that I ever used on Callie. Now I have 3 Madan brushes and apparently need the CC slicker/pin brush too

Don't feel bad, I only ever used a dollar store slicker on Milo, my parent's sheltie. I didn't start buying good brushes until I got Sadie 4 years ago. Milo will be 10 this year. :smile2:

I have the CC flat slicker that I bought as a present to myself at the Oklahoma Collie National. I love it.

I just groomed my mothers hairy dog, and it took a pin brush and the slicker AND then the blower after his bath to get the rest out. The other thing that I use a lot is a Poodle comb. They have wide teeth, and are good at getting down and pulling out coat. Especially on dogs where the undercoat just falls out. It's not as good when the hair is dripping and the undercoat clings.

I use a large flat slicker for brushing, a tiny flat slicker for chalking legs and a little triangle shaped one for behind the ears that works really well. I have never used a curved one though. Mine are all wood handles but I'm not sure on the brands.

I'll weigh in...I have a flat CC slicker..why did I choose it? Simply because its was the only one I could find that I felt wasnt scratchy on my skin when I tried it. It had enough cushion to "give" enough so its not pokey on the dogs. And they dont seem to mind it as much as the cheaper brands. I only use it on the backs of their ears and their legs though..

I found this Lawrence brush by accident at a local pet shop here in Ottawa. I absolutely love it! It does an amazing job, even with Indy's thick undercoat.

Like Lightplum, I tested it on my hand. The pad is very springy and the bristles do not scratch. It also feels really good in my hand and is comfortable to use.

I think it cost me about $12 Cdn. for the medium

If you can't find it in your area, I would happy to buy one and ship it to you.

My next purchase will be the triangle for the ears. My slicker is not so large, but I've often thought the ears would be easier with a smaller shape.

I think you'll really like it! I bought mine on a whim and took it to a show and everyone we were set up with loved it! I kept loosing it and I'd find it on other peoples tables...at the last few shows I noticed everyone has their own now! LOL  It's just a good size/shape to get behind the ear.

I have the Lawrence Tender Care slickers in the tiny, small and medium (can't help myself). It is definately softer on the skin and the dogs prefer them more. The tiny is good behind the ears otherwise I use the small most. I also have one for my cat and brought one for my sisters cat too. I haven't seen the triangle one yet - must have a look. I am ordering for the dog club shop now so can get brushes at wholesale - now thats going to be dangerous!

Looks like I'm going to have to go on a bit of a shopping spree. :rolleyes2:

I think for the slicker I'll probably break down and spend the money on a couple of CC slickers. I still don't know if I'll go for a flat or curved one, maybe the flat one since its less expensive. I might try the triangle slicker, it looks/sounds great for getting out ear matts.

I'm going to get a boar hair brush too, but I'll see if I can get one at Sally Beauty supply first, where they're much cheaper. They have a similar one to the one CC sells.

I'd also like to try some Show-Off and maybe some white on white. I'm still unsure of the white on white though, when mane and tail does such a GREAT job of making their ruffs white.

So may decisions!

Thanks for the input everyone!

Don't give up on the Lawrence brushes! I love my CC brushes (I've got 3), but this slicker at 1/2 the price is worth a look see.
