Casey in early stages of renal failure

I am so very sorry to hear about Casey, I send lots of thoughts and prayers to Casey, you and your family. I agree with the other posters about the comfort aspect, when I took Bambi to the vet, she had been vomiting blood for 2 days, I took her to the vet thinking stomach virus, etc. Vet said she is in a lot of pain, (but what he said next just about tore my heart out), because she is vomiting up her food she is starving, but do you want to take her home for a day or two to say your goodbyes? I said no because I know me and I will not bring her back, then it ceases to be about her, but all about me and that's not fair to her. She was 11 1/2 years old when she crossed the Bridge 9/28/09 . . . incidentally, just 2 days after my birthday! She was my heart and I miss her every day. :(

Thank you all for the kind words. And for understanding and supporting us.

I'm so sorry to hear about Bambi.

Next Monday will be 2 years since we lost our first rescue Sheltie, Scotty. It still hurts.

So sorry to hear about Casey's illness. Will keep him in my prayers.

ps Glad to hear he is eating well and likes his new food! That is great!

I gave Burdock root - available in drop form at health food stores - to our westie when he was diagnosed. He live for just over 2 more years to age 15 and a half when he suddenly refused food. At that point we let him go before he could seizure.
I gave him 2 drops a day in his food (16 lb dog). Burdock is supposed to help cleanse the blood.
During this time he also had dentistry and we flushed the whole bag of fluids through him.
He was active and his usual self until the last few days.
It's hard to see them go downhill but I know you will do all you can to keep him happy and comfortable.

Thanks Tagg. And yes, I will do all I can to keep him comfortable and happy.

And this is going to sound strange since it's just been under 2 weeks but I can tell a difference in him. I spend all day long with the boys. They're always within a few feet of me.

Casey is quieter in the mornings. Mornings have always been his ever so active time which usually meant running in and out 100 times and making me crazy. Now he naps in the morning for awhile.

And the evening is when he now seems to be more active.

And he just looks a little frail. I don't know how to tell you what I see but I can see a change. Is it because I know? Or do I really? I think I really do.

The first thing out of my mouth was, we will NOT let him suffer. He will be kept comfortable and happy as long as we can.- Best attitude EVER

I'm very sorry your babe is sick.
