Cassie's misfortune with grooming :(

So sorry to hear about your experience. We are still trying to find a good groomer in our area. We had a wonderful lady but she had back surgery and now she no longer will groom our dogs. We have been searching ever since. We have had incomplete jobs and bad hair cuts but thank goodness no injuries. I hope Cassie makes a full recovery soon.

Youch! Between the cost and the fear of mistakes, I'm glad that only one of mine (so far) has the really heavy coat. Indy just has to bear with me on the brushing. He doesn't care for it but will submit. It looks like Newton is going to have a LOT of coat when his fried and brittle hair comes back AND as he finishes getting his full coat. My others do not have tons of fur; which I am actually grateful for. Emma's fur is dense, but not terribly long; Figaro's is full but so silky that it doesn't tangle. Angus is still getting his fur but it looks a lot like his dad's. Sasha doesn't have a thick coat at all...and right now is suffering through the post-partum mommy baldness poor dear. Its snapped cold here and I can't leave her out long or she shivers.

I have had Indy lightly groomed before...getting a "tidiness" cut at the butt or his nails clipped but otherwise I just brush him out and use scissors to trim up a bit here and there. His thyroid problems are making his tail quite thin; but he's got lots of fur elsewhere.

That's terrible!

I love our mobile groomer. Doesn't hurt that she is a Sheltie mom of 10 Shelties, and fosters for our Sheltie rescue :biggrin2:

I'm so sorry, the poor baby! I never would have imagined something like that happening.

Thankfully, you got it early and sounds like she'll be alright. With any luck she won't associate the pain with the grooming, since it probably came later.

Thank you Furmom. I hope she will.

BarbV she is very smart. I will watch her behavior next time she will have grooming. It'll tell me if she associates or not.
Thanks
. :biggrin2: I appreciate your response.

We intend to try a woman groomer we were referred to. Like it was said here a good part is Cassie will see us because we will be watching. It will not be so scary for her.
:)

Awwww..... Granite, you sound so caring and loving. We all are so loving of our 4-legged - so adorable, and so smart. They are forever kids. :) Thank you for sharing.

I just want to share with you that how important is to use an experienced groomer in the salon.

Last Saturday Cassie was groomed at the salon where we have been taking her for over a year.
This time it was not all happy time. Soon after grooming Cassie started chewing into her both paws very intensively, non-stop.

We noticed how uncomfortable she felt. I wanted to take a look at her paw and she snapped at me and could possibly chop off 1/2 of my finger from anger and pain. :( We noticed her both paws were bleeding. I took her to the doctor who diagnosed severe inflammation and a possible secondary infection (added from her chewing) caused by grooming. Doctor put her on 2 different medications: anti-inflammatory and anti-biotic. She also gave us a medicated shampoo to wash all 4 her paws twice a week. So we carefully follow the orders. She is slowly recovering but her paws still look terrible.:(

At least the grooming salon reimbursed $74. It has always been fine with this grooming salon except this last time. Chances are Cassie turned out in the inexperienced groomer's hands.

In the office we were referred to the mobile grooming woman. We will probably take advantage of it.

Just wanted to share with you all.

Have a good day everybody.

only read this post because my mom's shi-tzu always has bad luck at the groomers. i hope cassie's all better now. hugs and kisses from ziek and his mommy.

Hi, :) thank you, Cassie is much better now. We have one more day for the medicines to give her, and one more time to apply med. shampoo. Then she has a follow-up appointment to the doctor.

It was a huge distress for her, poor thing.
:(

I am so sorry you had a bad luck too. We only had bad one time. I can not complain. You may want to find a mobile groomer next time. We are going to give it shot. She was recommended to us by the vet. office.

Best of luck to your "baby".
