Celebration day for Sketchie

how is Physical Therapy going?

Gavin is still in the middle phase; it is raining too much for me to get him on regular walks to build up endurance. He is walking completely on all 4s and doesn't seem to tire easily, but last weekend on a walk we ran for a tree when it started raining and he ran as a tripod.

I'm late to the party. Just saw the videos. Wow! What a great job you both have done. He looks so happy and full of life.

Cindy, Gavin is doing so well...I love reading about his progress!

Sketch is also doing well but with some limitations. He has trouble with more than 2 steps and full stairs are way beyond possible for him...I am not sure if he will ever handle a full flight of stairs again. He also can't put his front feet up on a lap or anything else...his one remaining back leg still isn't strong enough to support him in that position. We have icy patches in the yard here, no new snow, and he does slip and fall at times...he shuts down for a bit after a fall...not sure if it is emotional or if he hurts following a fall. But, overall, he is living a good life and is a happy boy in spite of the limitations. Amputation of a limb is a biggie and even though dogs bounce back so much faster and with less emotional struggle than humans, it does forever change their life.

My thanks to everyone for the supportive posts. :smile2:

Hmm..back when Gavin was a tripod for a month, he was able to jump on furniture and do the stairs to the vets. Actually, the furniture was harder because he was jumping from a stand, he ran the steps. Even on 4 legs, he runs stairs mostly. He doesn't walk them very well.

Hopefully Sketchie will gain more strength and be able to do stairs in future..maybe try running them?

So gratifying to hear of both Gavin and Sketchie's progress, even if it's not perfect, they are sound relatively happy, and will put the bad times behind them. Good, persistant and thoughtful care from both Cindy and Trini. :hugs

Like everyone else, I follow the updates on both Gavin and Sketch (even if I'm not responding to all of them because of a lack of time). It's great to hear both dogs are doing well despite the various challenges they face.

Trini and Cindy, you are both doing such an amazing job with your dogs.
