Cody has a shoulder injury

I have been thinking of Cody as well. Three o'clock is his appointment today, I believe.

Prayers are being sent out.

Well, Cody and I are finally home from our vet appt. today. I must say that I was very impressed with the Dr.. I have NEVER had a vet spend so much time and explain things in the manner that he did. We were in the office for a total of 2 hrs. and the vet was with us for an hour at least. He gave me the option to go back to my regular vet and request radiographs of the entire leg OR allow him to diagnosis Cody. I made the decision to stay with Dr. Smith due to his statement that he himself would not have prescribed Azium from the very beginning without determining the exact cause of the lameness.

Lyme disease has been ruled out. He stated it is NOT present in this region. In fact, they did tests on 1000 dogs that was funded by a pharmacuetical (spell check) company and the results were ZERO.

Dr. Smith stated it could possibly be three different kinds of arthritis, a fracture, or a ligament tear which would lead to surgery by an Orthopedic Vet. Radiographs (I assume that means x-rays) have been taken and I will know the results Monday.

THANK YOU Denise & Dawn for your concern!!! You have no idea how much your support means to me. It touches my heart!!!

I must add that I was SOOOOOO proud of Cody today. I was permitted to take him to work with me today and go straight to the vets office. He stayed in his crate with absolutely NO barking or whining, allowed young children to pet him and even gave them kisses!! HE WAS SUCH A GOOD BOY!!

Angie, I'm so happy to hear that you've found a vet that seems perfect for you and your situation!

It's also encouraging to hear that he has a good idea of what it could be.

Please keep us in the loop once the x-rays are back--I'm still sending good thoughts your way!

(And PS: What a good boy, Cody!)

Half the battle is finding the right vet, and it sounds like you've done that. It's also important to have one that communicates with you and cares that you understand what he's doing and suggesting. I'm so happy that Cody is in the right hands now. I hope you have a diagnosis soon so he can get on the road to recovery. Good luck and pats to Cody!

I would find a vet that WILL test for Lymes disease. Gosh...the simple snap test in the office that they do for heartworm testing also tests for Lyme. Lot less money than all the x-rays as well.

What's his temperature? I sure am hoping that one of your vets checked his temp.

I still don't get why they will not test? It makes no sense to me.

Angie I am so happy you found a vet you are happy with. Praying you get a diagnosis when the radiographs come back. Hang in ther Cody! Gypsy send hugs.

Cody

Soooo glad for you Sheltiemom4, so glad that you took your baby to Dr. Smith, as I sent you a message earlier you know that I am on TEAM CODY.

Dr. Smith went above and beyond for my O'Keeffe when she had cancer and walked us through every step of the way. In fact O'Keeffe outlived her diagnosis by several years, pain free and I owe it all to him. He said 'I am glad that she made a liar out of me.'

Vets like Smith don't grow on trees, I wish that they did. He also took care of my other shelties and Famous Seamus adored him.

Best,
Kate

Thanks for the current update on Cody. He has been on my heart and in my thoughts and prayers all day.

Sounds like he is on the road to recovery now! This second vet is the "charm!"

PS Such a very good boy, you are, Cody!!! (that's nice you were able to bring him to work today and then go straight to the vet) You must work for a nice organization. My hat goes off to them.

His explanation was that it is much more spread on the east and west coast. The ticks we have here are deer ticks, not the type that carry lyme disease. If I had been traveling with Cody, he would have suggested the test......
