Happy New Year Sheltie Nation!

Cody, our 10.5 year old Sheltie was diagnosed with CRF in November. The last month has been very stressful, but it looks like we are now headed in the right direction. We have him on home cooking, and with medication and fluids we have his phosphate levels back in the normal range. We are now working on improving the BUN and creatinine levels.

I have also joined the K9Kidney Diet Group. The have provided a wealth of information and support.

We have committed ourselves to doing our best to give Cody a fighting chance to have as close to normal life as possible. Having pet insurance is paying off big time, and is allowing us to give him the best care possible.

I am asking the Sheltie Nation to share their experiences, words of wisdom, tips, and prayers as we go down this new path with Cody.

I fed a drop of burdock root (available in health stores) to our old westie, Michael, in his meals and he lived an additional 2 years before he succumbed to CRF. He even went through a dentistry during this time.
The biggest thing to watch for is appetite. When they stop eating, they are becoming toxic and can seizure.

hugs! I don't know anything about CRF but with a dog with a chronic illness, I wish you all the best in treating your baby!
