Collar of Shame (Collar after Neutering)

When bitches are spayed I've seen that a lot of people get a child's t-shirt, cut it up the back, then put it on the dog, making sure it covers the stitches and tie the back bits up in a knot. The dog seems to find that less uncomfortable than a collar and it doesn't seem to bother them so much.

I wish they did something similar for boys, maybe a pair of shorts? Cadbury ate through his first collar, he detested it.

Oh, and I can also confirm how painful those things are when the dog side-swipes the back of your leg and takes off a layer of skin!

I changed vets after Cadbury's neuter, it was such a bodge job, looked like a 5-year-old had sewn him up with wool! And he stunk when he came out of the vets (not vet stink either) - couple with that the op site swelled and they blamed it on him licking it when he was wearing a collar all the time and the final straw was a stitch didn't dissolve and was left stuck in and he licked himself raw. Poor boy.

Now *that* is a big cone, and an absolutely gorgeous dog! But it does look a lot more comfortable. Did you get it from your vet, or a pet store...?

I ordered it on line from Petco. They do sell them at their stores too, but being from Canada, we don't have them here. It really is a good collar - it does not scrach furniture, much more comfortable for the dog and it does not amplify the sound around the dogs sensitive ears either. (then, once you are done wiht it, you can use it as a life preserver - sorry, had to add that in there, as that is what most people would joke about when Chinook was wearing it.)
