Burrs and grass seeds are pretty rampant here. I use baby oil. I rub it through the ends of their coats before a walk - either I put it on my hands and rub it through, or pour some on a brush. It doesn't keep all burrs and seeds out but it does reduce them and makes it easier to get them out.
I also use baby oil to get the burrs out - I'm lazy soo I usually use the brush with oil to brush it out, then any stuck ones I can just use my fingers to work out as it, if its really bad or in an awkward spot I put the baby oil on my finger tips.
The added bonus is it makes their fur soft and silky.

In places there are dozens just stuck together.
