Cranberry in AL

Well, the BerryBoy is simply BEAUTIFUL!!!! If I had my choice, my next Sheltie would be a merle. Either sable or blue. You should be very proud of your sweet boy, #1 in his class!

oh, I totally am proud of him. he's the smartest boy ever- I just need to keep up. perhaps we are too multitasking as we've begun some agility as well. so we were starting with some basic stuff- touch- get him to touch my hand. then when we got to stay not too long ago- well, the hand in front of him looks like touch- so he did. that means he did not stay. so we're trying to come up with another signal for stay.
and I love merles too- someday a blue, a tri, a biblack and a biblue- just not all at the same time. would be nice to have all - but probably too many dogs for me to handle at once. :wink2:

He is so cute. He is looking merly again.:smile2:

I think so :smile2:
all the local people think that since he's a merle, he should have gray in his fur and that since he doesn't- some light/whitish areas on his one ear and some other places, that he's not really a merle. if they seem semi-intelligent and maybe open to learning, I try and explain that it's just a dilution of the color and brown doesn't go to gray like black does. oh well, I know what he is and most people don't get past the eyes- everyone loves the blue eye :wink2:

Do you have to have mate a sable dog and blue merle dog to produce a sable merle pup? Or can you get a sable merle with two sable parents if there is some blue merle in their line?

I only ask because Bailey has two light sable patches on her should. I attached a picture. It looks white in the picture, but it's actually a very light sable.

One of the parents needs to be a merle, either a sable merle or a blue merle(bi blue). Once the merle gene is lost it is gone no matter how many merle are in the pedigree. Now somtimes melres can be cyptic(not obvious) and then you can a suprise.:wink2: Bailey shoulder look like normal sable variety to me.

Good to know! Thanks!

Cranberry's mom is a beautiful blue and his dad a gorgeous sable
I was kind of surprised that there were only 2 merle pups but all the pups look great. :smile2:
