Cranberry in AL

Seeing Cranberry with his paws in the dish reminded me of something Dana Quinney of Clan Duncan said in the history pages on her web site.

"... Pow loved water. If your Sheltie likes to splash in puddles or swim, if your puppies can sometimes be found sleeping IN the water dish, perhaps it's that dash of Pow back there ..."

Is Pow (Am./Can. Ch. Cherden Sock It To "Em CD) way back there in Cranberry's pedigree?

Yes he is! :biggrin2: That's funny... I've never really read about him... could explain some things why these puppies and the puppies from my previous litter loves to play in water! Both litters were related... my previous litter was sired by CH Carmylie Nandina 'Scuse my Dust... and this litter dam, Macy is sired by him.. and their sire, Player, is grandsired by him... and through him is where Pow comes in. Pow is actually in there quite a few times!

Maybe you should send a note and some pix to Dana to let her know that you have evidence that the Pow water affinity lives on.

That is so funny about Pow and water. Diva loves water. When she was 6 months old, we were walking around the pond on Rachel's property and Diva saw a duck family in the pond and jump in and started swimming out to herd the ducks.:smile2: I look at Diva's pedigree and Pow is a ways back though Cash(Ch Macdega Piano Man) heavily both sides. Diva also jumps straight up in greeting like they said Pow did. Justice and Ember only have him once on the sires side. They don't care for water.

It is funny. Probably why the story stuck with me. Pow and Piano Man both show up in both Phebe's sire and dam, if I go back 8 generations. I probably researched this before, but forgot about it. Peter Pumpkin shows up in both, too.

I haven't seen Phebe playing in her water dish, but she did go in the water after ducks a couple of months ago and didn't seem all phased about it, except she was cold. It was only about 30 degrees that morning, so the water wasn't much above freezing.

I forgot the site where you can see your dog's lineage.

I know Bailey had quite a few Macdega's on her family true. I'm pretty sure Piano Man was one of them.

I think this is amazing! How great that not only the physical traits but the behavioural seem to breed on!

How smart of Phebe to make the initial connection!

Chloe and Dandie have a lot of Macdega in their family tree as well. So...Bailey is somehow maybe related to my girls :biggrin2:

Unless, of coarse, all Shelties have Macdega somewhere in their line

 I think a lot of them do...kind of like Peter Pumpkin. They did a lot of great things for the breed.

Bentley has Piano Man, Maserati, Glen Hart Grand Prix, Canden Coming Home, One Day at a Time to name a few.

I just checked. Macdega Paino Man is on both her sire and dam's side...going back 8th generations. She has alot of other Macdega's in her line too.

Peter Pumpkin shows up on her inbred line, so I think he might 9 or 10 generations back. Bailey has macdega's piano man, maserati, coming home, one day at a time, tiburon, malibu...all those guys too. All our pups are loosely related.
