I have high energy dogs, but I think part of it dogs themselves and part us. When my BIL got Sammy from rescue at 6 months old they hit it off with Che right away but Sammy could not hold her own, she was deconditioned, she would run and play for few minutes and then lay down and rest. We were told she is calm and has laid back personality. Well, she is not and by now she and Che can go for hours and both are very active. So I think, it takes two to tango
None of our dogs are known to have zoomies, but if I do not take them for customary pooch park early am for their usual full out runs, boy, I better have really strong arms, they are so restless... and generally they are loose leash walk very well...

"Zoomies" is a cute word for it! We call it "The Rips." I think my mother-in-law came up with that. Both my Sheltie and my Lab pups do it occasionally, as did my first Sheltie that I had growing up.
I agree with both sides expressed here...although it's hilarious to watch and I get a kick out of it, it does signal to me that my dogs didn't get enough exercise that day. It hasn't happened as much with my Sheltie since we brought the Lab home about a month ago...as someone else mentioned about their dogs, now they tend to have the raucous play-fighting that seems to tire them out (although it takes a looooong time for them to get to the tired stage).

I love it, we had one last night...they're about weekly. First time it happened I freaked out! Thought she was going crazy from being inside all day...funniest thing I've ever seen, espcially when she does the spin at the end and then lays there looking at me, ears pinned back.
