Daisy very sick

The vet took me in at 8:05am without an appointment, and saw her first. He gave her a nausea shot and a shot for diarrhea. The blood work looked ok, except her kidney level was pretty high. He said that could be due to some dehyration. He kept her for today at least for observation. He said it was not the "doggy flu" that has been going around.

I am a nervous wreck.

I am also exhausted....I was up all night taking her outside, cleaning her behind, and her vomit. By morning she was only retching, no more to come out. I am going to try and sleep some, but don't know if I can.

Thanks for the update. I hope that you are able to get some rest today. Hopefully this is just something that will quickly pass. Please continue to keep us posted....AFTER you get some rest yourself.

Praying for both you and Daisy this morning. I’m glad her blood work came back OK. Will Daisy be coming home this evening or did the vet not say. Try to get some rest today Beth, I’m sure Daisy is going to be fine.

Aw I was thinking it sounds like what my girl had a few weeks ago but luckily mine didn't have diarrhea just vomited around 30-40 times and had the shakes you described. We let her wait it (did blood tests for organs and all okay minus gall bladder from all the bile she was vomiting) out and in about three days she was on the mend. We were able to keep her hydrated with coconut water/bone broth/chamomile tea.

I sure hope she feels 100% better soon and that you get some rest! She's in good hands at the vet and probably just has a virus of some sorts and will be better after her immune system fights it off! Best of luck!

The vet didn't know if he would send her home today or tomorrow. I have to call at 4pm and see.

Her stool tested negative for parasites....her blood work was pretty good except for kidneys. Now I am thinking I may have caused this...I got some stairs for her to climb onto the sofa on Saturday, and lined the steps with chicken pieces to motivate her to climb up them. I would think bone-less, skin-less chicken would not make her sick, but I think I may have overdone it...

Maybe just an expensive lesson.

If you live in Austin -- Riverside Vet is the best, affordable vet there. His prices are so great and a lot of times, if you're a repeated customer, he lets things go for free.

I doubt the chicken did that. It probably was something she picked up on her paws... no worries, we all get sick! :) Now she will be better equipped to deal with the germs in the future and you won't have to worry about it again.

Prayers sent for you and Daisy. Chicken strips .... Hmmm... Too much of a good thing maybe. Danny got sick at Easter because relatives kept feeding him ham pieces. I never would have thought chicken would do this ... When dogs get sick we feed them chicken and rice. Hugs to you.:hugs
