Daisy very sick

Hugs!

Do you still have the dog food bags of TOTW that you were feeding? If so, you can check the production codes to see if what you were feeding was what has been recalled. If you send them to me, I can help you verify them.

p.s. that goes to anybody on the forum who has concerns about their Diamond food. Just pm me....I'm happy to help you dicipher the code.....

That being said, Diamond keeps insisting that the food being recalled is precautionary only. And there is also a notion that dogs aren't even susceptible to salmonella at all....but its only the humans handling the food that need to be concerned. (When I witness the stuff my dogs get into, I'm almost inclined to agree with this theory, btw). :ick

My thoughts are with you and Daisy.
I hope all she needs is a few days with some fluids to get her back to normal\

It's sad, but with the meds I take at night, often I am doing things on auto-pilot. Recently, I was feeding Daisy at 3am (3am and 3pm are feeding times) and I guess it smelled so good I put a scoop full in my mouth. I spit it out, waking up...I've done that before with nice smelling soap....I didn't get sick.

I don't have her old codes to check with, but I have a bag unopened. I will send the codes in a PM message soon.

From what I understand about salmonella, there is salmonella in your dog's system pretty much at all times. It's a bacteria that is often found (in trace amounts) in your dog.

However, an excess of it can lead to sickness. When Lexi was young they tested her urine to determine what bacteria was present (she was exhibiting signs of a UTI, but was resistant to broad spectrum abx), and one was salmonella. They said that that is typical, but an excess amount that is causing symptoms needs to be treated.

I am not in the recall area. But I am going to switch foods anyway I think. I cannot stand for her being sick.

She is on Taste of the Wild, but I live in Texas.

Hope Daisy gets better quick!!!!! Let us know how she is doing!

Just a side note, it doesnt matter that you are in TX, the food was manufactured in SC and shipped all over the US and Canada...So there is a chance you may have had the recalled food.

Our local TV station did report a dog is in the veterinary clinic from getting very sick from a Diamond food. Nausea and diarrhea etc. It would have died if not taken to the clinic. Maybe dogs are getting sick but not enough to warrant a trip to the vets. I read that by touching dog biscuits you can get sick. Or if your dog licks you you can get it. What next?
