Dear Fluffy's Ears

This is what Jasper looks like after a glueing.I do bring them up,with a very small dab of glue in the center. It's easy to do.
Once you get the tips done.Look at the head straight on.You will see or should be able to see small hairs that are on the inside of the ear, close to the skull.

They are somewhat longer on Jasper,so it's easy to get the right ones. If I take those little wisps of hair and give a gentle tug inwards,it will bring the ears in close. That's how I know i have the right amount & the right hair.

I just take those little wispy hairs, and twist together, hold for a second or two,and voila the ears are close & high up. Once it is all dry,I take a comb and bring his hair forwards. So it gives them a nice rounded look, they look like they don't have ears, but they are there.

I have been ill here for 2 days,Jaspers need doing again. But normally I do not let them stay unglued for long.As they go prick in no time.i've had gluings that have stayed better than 3 weeks here.

When I first started tipping her ears I had no idea that taking them out for a while could cause them not to tip. Everytime I took her to the vet for shots (after the first trip) I took her ears down. I wanted to make sure he could look in her ears, because...well. You never know.

Then when she got spayed I took them out the week before her spay and they stayed out until the week after her spay.

So, yeah. Fluff is probably going to be a little on the prickly side. :biggrin2:

We did tape, Speed Sew, etc., etc. And I have to admit, he did look adorable with his little tipped ears. But then, they went their own way, and now, I wouldn't change him. He loves it when I rub the tips ... gets a far-away look on his face!

Keep doing taping and bracing. Thoae two weeks might not have too much of an effect. There were periods where bailey went a week or so without taped ears and they were prick. Bailey is almost a year now and she seems to have a nice tip. Ive had the tape out for two weeks. I just retaped this morning. So keep taping till shes a year old.

Although its definitely harder with two dogs playing all of the time, I still found tear mender to be great. Even with the wrestling it still kept the ears in place for at least 2-3 weeks.

It comes out a little easier than other glues because there's silicon in it. And its waterproof. :smile2:

I was going to order some of that when I ran out of my current glue, but my current glue is all dried up almost (it dries super fast!) so I might order that when I order another roll of Japanese tape.

The only place I use the glue is on the tape. Next time I take them out I'll see if she will let me take step by step pictures so everybody can tell me what I need to do different. She's usually pretty good about standing still, but with somebody using the weedeater right outside the window...I can't say I blame her.

I would suggest you glue the ears straight down, meaning not the tips glued to the inside corners. The way they are glued right now, the ear tips will be angled inward when not glued. Add to that, the fact that her back skull will widen as she grows, the ear tips will really look angled inward. When you look at the pup head on, the line where the fold is should be totally horizontal not angled, for best results.
