They are the "Know It All's".I also had a girl telling a bunch of people at the park oh that is the girl who had her dogs voice boxed removed and it was loud enough for me to hear.I turned to her and said think about what you just said.If I had their voice boxes removed there would be no sound.Shut her up quick and made her look like an idiot in the process.:biggrin2:
 
My boy had intact vocal chords, and I loved hearing his happy little joy barks. He didn't bark excessively, and had a nice sounding voice.

If he was being a bit too talkative, I gave him the "quiet" finger signal, kneeled down next to him, and gave him my "be a quiet little boy" lecture in a very soft tone of voice. He carefully listened...

Speaking of penny cans, (no cork/pea) Referee Whistles can be used the same way - to interrupt an unwanted behavior. At close range, they are extremely loud.
 
I convinced my friend to get her two debarked last year and she will tell anyone that it was the best decision she ever made. Hers are obsessive barkers and totally obnoxious and her neighbors were constantly complaining.

My two on the other hand, very rarely bark and even when they do it's very short lived, so I guess I just got lucky.

There is lots of pros and cons on the subject and not everyone will agree to it but for me it was the best thing that I did.If and when I get another pup he/she will be debarked.I will say before the descision to have Sting done I did all the training and nothing worked.I know I wasn't going to get rid of him or use a shock collar or pinch collar so you do the next best thing.This has nothing to do with a debark but have you ever heard of a sheltie being comapred to a Duck Tolling?Yep had a guy who said his dog looked just like Sting and he had a Duck Tolling?Of course I told him he was crazy and if anything they looked like a Golden.He got nasty and said what ever lady.:biggrin2:
 
We have sometimes been questioned about the debarking when someone we pass on a walk hears one of the dogs bark. Our answer is usually followed by their disapproving stare and an, "Oh!" Funny thing is, most of those people (morons) are the ones with their dogs racing around off leash bothering everyone when we are in a park where off leash is not permitted! Ignorance reigns supreme for some!!
 
I don't know what went wrong, but a former neighbor had their (not a Sheltie) dog debarked, and it made a horrible croaking sound.

There are definitely bad debarks. Not all vets learned to do them well. The lady here in Maryland has Shelties, and the Sheltie people taught her how to do it. She is quite good, people travel from all over to get to her.

Something I may have to consider down the line.
