Dining at Mamma's Lap Cafe

The stories of trips and adventures are easy to tell. The stories of decline are hard to tell. and not everyone wants to hear them. but they are so important so we know we aren't alone, that what we are doing is right and doable, that we aren't some crazy person who should just let go, and it IS worth it and there are some people who do want to hear about it. Enjoy all those little lap meals, as Layla relaxes into you.
Yep I have been worrying as the bond is obvious and so was that the end is coming. I was truly concerned for Chris. Stories like this help as yes it will tear a huge part of her out but I think she will carry on. In the meantime Layla has the best buddy.

Chris.
Blessing to your previous Layla for the love and joy she brings to so many...and to you for all the unconditional love and joy your have given back to her. If only every dog knew what it was to have a life so well lived.
Gentle hugs to you both. Trini

Thanks for worrying about me, Sheep -- it means so much. But honestly? I'm going to be fine. I'm so grateful to have her in my life, and although I will miss her like crazy, I'm pretty sure I'm going to feel appreciation and acceptance. May her passing be peaceful.

Chris, sincere apology for my typo!!! That should read precious...not previous!!!!! I have been several nights on not much sleep with my tiny Miley back at the emergency vet hospital, now home, but still struggling and I think my brain is only firing on half capacity.
Hugs to you and Layla. Trini

Oh how this post got my eyes tearing up! You both have the most amazing bond! There is nothing in the world that comes close to the devotion you have to each other. It warms my heart. Comfort and compassion knows no bounds in your household! May the cafe always be opened for business!
No matter how hard it is for you, Cindy and Caro to post about your struggles with your seniors it makes me understand I am not alone in making my pets my priority. Especially in their senior years.

Honestly Chris, not one other person on this planet could have given Layla a better life than you have. You've helped her experience so much, travel all around the world and also be able to pass love and comfort to others. I've really enjoyed seeing everything you have done together and you both really inspire me to make Montys life as good as I can! Please pass on pats and love from us all on Montyland and I'm sending hugs to you also :hugs

Layla can no longer stand to eat, so we've open the Mamma's Lap Cafe. It takes her about 30 minutes to complete a meal, but she's a steady eater. She prefers brunch to be served around 2 pm. Sometimes she's in the kitchen after her dinner by 5:30, like everyone else. Other times, she prefers to eat later, 7 or even 8. Whatever she wants, we accommodate. We no longer leave her alone in the house because she gets stuck on her side. If no one rescues her, she can panic. Same at night: she sleeps in an x-pen by my side of the bed so she doesn't wander and so I can her her struggle and help her stand several times a night. Layla can still walk and poop/pee, but her back legs are weakening.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Both of our spirits are great. Layla has had such a remarkable life -- travel, service to Wounded Warriors, meeting celebrities -- that I can bring myself to be sad her sun is nearly set. She's brought me so many amazing people, like each one of you, and my days have been richer for journeying with her.
