Do you feed your babies raw eggs?

Cooking is a reasonable precaution. That's why both the AEB and FDA recommend it.

In our area, you can also get pasteurized-in-the-shell eggs that are safe, but still look like raw eggs.

"Even eggs with clean, uncracked shells may occasionally contain bacteria called Salmonella that can cause an intestinal infection. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) estimates that 142,000 illnesses each year are caused by consuming eggs contaminated with Salmonella...Thorough cooking is perhaps the most important step in making sure eggs are safe."

My understanding is that eggs should be handled carefully for OUR safety, not the dogs. We're the ones who susceptible to Salmonella, not our canine companions.

Yes, but I believe this is related to humans, not to dogs.

My dogs eat fresh raw eggs straight from the coop, not washed!! Never had a dog sick yet.

Also did you know fresh eggs do not have to be refridgerated, they can sit in on the counter for several weeks, as long as you DO NOT wash them. Eggs have a special coating called bloom that prevents bacteria from entering eggs. How else do you think a chicken can set on an egg for 28 days without it going rotten.

Of course you can not do this with store bought eggs, only fresh laid eggs, store eggs are already 2+ weeks old when they get shipped to the store.

My sheltie loooooooves eggs. When I ask... do you want an eggie... he whines and runs around in circles until it is prepared!!

I don't feed raw eggs. I imagine an occasional raw egg hasn't bothered a dog.

I spend money on biotin suuplements. It is B vitamin but is known as vitamin H and is for general health and coat growth. I don't see much point in giving raw egg white because they contain avidin. This binds with biotin and could potentially cause a biotin deficiency if feed in large enough amounts over time. We like ours cooked.

What are the health benefits to feeding raw eggs? My parents gave our Collie a raw egg once a week when I was growing up and said that it helped his coat. Is that true?
