Does colour define temperament?

I'm with Keg, K9 F. GeeRome A+.

I always wondered if there was any truth to that. And I can kinda see why mahogany sables are said to be tri-factored. I had ot ask if Miko was a tri, because of his coloring. He's BLACK on the sides, but roots are brown. I finally got to see a real tri in person and yeah, you can tell Miko is not a tri at ALL. I just get a kick though, that he does have 3 colors. lol.

Thanks for the class session. That truly was interesting.

I've had a lot of shelties in my home in the last year. I don't believe color has anything to do with temperament. I've had sables who are sweet and quiet, tri colors that are sweet and quiet and any other mix and match of colors that are sweet and quiet. But I can say for certainty that I've had every color of sheltie who have been completely uncontrollable and very difficult to handle. There isn't any distinction about color and temperament that I've read or heard of.

My opinion is that the temperament comes from the genetic line rather than the color.

Umm no.

Talk to the breeder about the lineage which matters a million times more. Oh and while the breeder won't intentionally state it their interpretation of their 'lines' will also somewhat indicate how the household and initial puppy raising is (THIS IS NOT a knock on breeders, it is merely talking about their focus).

Luke is a Blue Merle? I've no plans to breed him. he's Neutered and under sized and has already shown at least 2 birth defect. Impacted upper canines and congenital growth plate defect in a forepaw. But he's sweet and full of fun and pranks and we love him. he's black and tan in some areas and white. Doesn't that mean he's a Tri-color who happens to have blue eyes?

I got him at a pet store and am pretty sure he came from a puppy mill. I will have to take a closer look at his breed line.i am confused. Whatever he is he's gorgeous

Little Luke primary coat color is black.with tan above his eyes and various other places and has white on his legs, feet chest and top of head.their is some grey behind his ears and he has blue eyes. Do blue eyes make him a Merle. When he looks like a Tri?

I'm no expert, but I have not found that to be true. I have owned a tri in the past, and he was full of pepper - loved to play all day long. Now I have a blue merle male, and he is passive, passive, passive, and the blue merle female (although she looks like a bi or a tri) is full of energy and spunk. The breeder where Maia came from, her bi-black shelties were calm, and the blues were more spunky. So you see, I think it all depends on the dog, the dog's personality, and how you train them.
